Black dress black jacket - too morbid for job interview?

As above really!
I have a very smart black dress, which I would probably wear with a black jacket but am worried it looks a bit funereal?

The alternative is black skirt, black jacket and either a red or ivory blouse. The jacket doesn't match either the skirt or the dress perfectly, but you'd have to be pretty close to notice.

I think the dress is slightly smarter, but dh pointed out that it does look a bit morbid and I think he may be right....

Statement necklace?

eurochick · 27/02/2018 13:10

It's fine.

Go for what you'll feel most confident in! Try wearing a bright scarf or bag if you want to lighten it up a bit.

I don't really have a lot of statement jewellery that would be suitable for an interview, and the only bag I have that isn't battered/rucksack is a shiny black one.

I will look through my jewellery though and try to find something.
Thanks for the advice.

I think it will be fine, but see if you have a necklace you could add, or a light silky/chiffon scarf to tie around your neck.

Good luck with your interview.

I had same problem too only a few weeks ago only I wore trousers black blouse black jacket so I chose pea green shoes and bag 🙂

troodiedoo · 27/02/2018 13:40

I would add a colourful scarf. Think I read once that scarves are good for interviews because they will remember it subconsciously because not many people wear them but they look very smart

Or that might be something my brain made up. But yeah, scarf. Good luck!

crackerjacket · 27/02/2018 16:33

They'll kind of expect you to look smart/like you're going to a funeral tbh. It's an interview, not a pleasure cruise.

Welshcake77 · 27/02/2018 18:49

I just interviewed someone last week who wore a black dress and jacket with burgundy shoes and similar colour lipstick, she looked great! I Definitely thought smart and not funeral. Go for it and good luck!

sourpatchkid · 27/02/2018 21:55

Honestly it doesn't mater. I interview people all the time, as long as they've dressed appropriately I couldn't care less what they're wearing (and I love clothes)

whirlygirly · 27/02/2018 22:01

Me too. As long as you're smart, that ticks the box for me.

I remember one bloke who turned up in blue jeans and had sunglasses pushed back on to his head though. It was very odd.

squishysquirmy · 28/02/2018 15:50

Thanks all! I'm going for the morticia Adams look! Grin
Am brightening it up with a tasteful but colourful necklace as I don't have the right kind of scarf.
