Dinner set present for a friends 40th?

I’m not sure it’s appropriate? This guy is a good friend and they invited all of us over for his 40th at a restaurant. They other day I was at Tesco buying grocery, I found a lovely dinner set and just thought it’ll be a nice present.
The party is tomorrow and the present is wrapped. I’m now thinking if it’s a stupid present!
What do you think ladies?

You must know what he likes if he's a good friend.

Concert tickets?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/02/2018 20:06

Dinner set would be v odd.

Amazon voucher screams, "I didn't know what to buy or couldn't be bothered to think about it".

What does he drink? A 'good' bottle of that would be fine. If he likes whiskey, an unusual single malt and some whisky stones maybe?

Local cheese and chutney?

What's your budget?

Alcohol or a made up box of nice food.

mamaduckbone · 24/02/2018 20:10

Definitely a weird gift op, sorry!
A bottle of something nice gets my vote.

goingtotown · 25/02/2018 00:30

Take it back for a refund, it’s not appropriate. Your friend would be embarrased.

Mulberrysilk · 25/02/2018 00:53

Keep it if you love it.
It's a really strange gift that you'll always be remembered for, and not in a good way.

SparkleFizz · 25/02/2018 01:10

Glad you’ve decided to keep the dinner set.

It’s something that’s very personal - in terms of taste and perception of loveliness - and there’s a good chance that they already have a dinner set they’re happy with.

A decent bottle of whatever his favourite alcohol is would probably be a safe bet.

How about a plant or tree for his garden (if he has one).

Ohyesiam · 25/02/2018 07:18

I'm really into ceramics, and recently for some gorgeous plates from Tesco. Your gain op.
How you found something else suitable fur your friend.
