Was talking to my friend today about finding a pair of boat shoes/deck shoes, whatever you want to call them, and she said she thought only old ladies wore that type of footwear! I enjoy been wearing boat shoes a lot over the last few summers...so I am intrigued...what do you think of boat shoes?

Your friend knows very little for Deck shoes / boat shoes invented in 1935 are timeless and are worn by the filthy rich, those who own yachts, bankers and people who frequent summer getaways to Marthas Vineyard, The Hamptons, and various mediterranean locations such as Cote d'Azur, Capri and the Greek Islands.
They defnitely not for old fogeys
So don your deck shoes and sail away.Smile

They made a comeback a few years ago but I think sailed off again (pun definitely intended) very soon. I seem to remember they were popular with 20something lads with the stretched years and tattoos who listened to screamo type music. Lots of bare ankle and Capri trousers. Blergh. Never my cup of tea.

mercurymaze · 23/02/2018 21:10

Lol I used to wear them in the 80s from Millets

HannahRo · 23/02/2018 21:14

I don't do that lifestyle at all! Just want a comfy pair of shoes for summer 😂 Oh god, do they look really awful then?

They remind me of my parents!

MidLifeCrisis2017 · 23/02/2018 21:17

They're agony till they're worn in but I still love the look of them. Moshulu used to do nice ones. They're pretty standard wear round here (big sailing area)

slothface · 23/02/2018 21:19

I remember them being on the high street and in fashion about 10 years ago when I was 18, v popular in the vintage/indie/hipster crowd. Wouldn't been see dead in 'em now though 😂 But if you like them who cares, get some'

welshmist · 23/02/2018 21:19

snabigailflagstabble · 23/02/2018 21:21

I really like them but I like a preppy look. I will be buying some soon and wearing them when it is warm enough. Never had a problem breaking them in and much more comfortable than ballet slippers.

Lucked · 23/02/2018 21:44

The Duchess of Cambridge wears Sebago

LadyFairfaxSake · 23/02/2018 23:57

I live in Timberlands, comfortable and long lasting and look great.

OfficeDictionary · 24/02/2018 00:00

I live in Cowes. They are de rigeur here but no idea about the rest of the world...

Theshipsong · 24/02/2018 00:26

I like them a lot and have bought a few pairs only to return them. They were very popular as school shoes when I was in secondary school and I can't get past that.

DuckBilledAardvark · 24/02/2018 00:31

I have two pairs of Sebago deck shoes, I love them, you can’t wear flip flops around horses so they do the job!

windchimesabotage · 24/02/2018 00:35

I love them and my dress sense is certainly not 'mature' in any way!
I actually think they are quite vintage looking and therefor a tad quirky.

Theshipsong · 24/02/2018 00:57

I know they have been around for years and years, but they were very very popular school shoes in the early nineties so being described as vintage has made me feel very old indeed.

puppymouse · 24/02/2018 01:04

I live in mine when it's warmer. I just had a pair wear out on me Blush

puppymouse · 24/02/2018 01:05
