Where do you shop?

We did a trawl of town today.
M&S, Next, H&M all full of stuff that she just wasn’t interested in - cropped tshirts and jumpers. Leggings with lace up bits down the side. Way too much sequins etc.
The supermarket ranges are no better/ worse.

It’s like when you hit 7 you’re a mini adult!

I think she’d be happy with that if she was 13. But she’s 7. She wants to climb and play and occasionally be girly in a dress/ skirt.

Where is good to look?
I’m guessing Boden will be a better match but £££.

Where’s the middle ground for the girls who don’t want to be teenagers at 7?

Gap are pretty good for being age appropriate! I know what you mean I can believe some of the "young girl" clothes out there atm!

Uniqlo is good for clothes that aren't too fitted. Eg jeans that aren't skinny so you can actually play in them.

DD wore a lot of boys clothes at that age, it's a really crap situation.

Our 7 year old mainly wears stuff from Mango, Zara, Arket, Benetton and then sweatshirts and t shirts from the fmly store. Next for basic t-shirts sometimes. Gap used to be good but seems to have gone totally off recently. Outside the lines and jigsaw are also good for occasion wear.

Joules and John Lewis would be worth a look.

Boden have 20% off at the mo. Just bought some stuff for dd (9) . Wouldn't dream of paying full price.

Lots of the Scandi brands: villervalla, Smafolk, Maxomorra, Duns. Can be expensive but retailers have regular sales.
Also H&M, uniqlo, lands end.

DD is 9 and resolutely not into girly clothes (asd too, so everything has to be very soft and stretchy!), quite frankly, clothes shopping us a nightmare. She gets skinny jeans from Boden and Joules which are great but ££ as you say. For tops she tends to go for the boy ranges, we get quite a bit from John Lewis, and she likes Animal stuff which tends to be nice soft cotton. But again ££, I've spent £100 on a hoodie and two pairs or jeans this week.

How strange! H&m, supermarkets and occasionally next are where I get my 7 year olds clothes from. Oh and primark. And they're very much little girl! My eldest is a teen and they have very different likes, age appropriate, looks. Maybe order some stuff online, the first page on the H&m kids bit shows a very kid like dungarees and stripy top.

We don’t have any of those shops here - except for a teeny Gap. Which dd hasn’t chosen anything from for years because they tend to have sequins on everything.

She doesn’t mind fitted - as long as she can get it off/ on and move in it she’s happy. It’s more the fashion-y styles and slogans and sequins on every flippin thing.

It’s a shame the younger girls section in Next stops at 5-6 as my 9yr old would wear a lot of it. I don’t know why they stop so young. Ditto the Nutmeg clothing at Morrisons. Lovely stuff up to 5-6 then tacky shite for older girls.

I was going to recommend Boden but I see you’ve mentioned it already. Sainsburys?

My dd has been mostly in fat face and Boden since that age with tops and bits from sainsburys. I buy a lot from eBay, her Boden is very rarely new!

Next online often have a far greater selection than they do in the shops. Maybe have a look there?

DD (9) HATES 'girly' clothes with a passion, it seems happy medium. V. Cheap. Cool!

I shop at H&M for dd who is 8, although mainly online. Agree that this is a tricky age in that shop as there are a lot of very grown up things. But there are still nice stretchy trousers in plain, spots, floral etc. There are nice plain cardigans and dd has some nice jumpers with hearts and small cat prints on. She had also had some nice stripy knitted dresses from there this winter. I really rate H&M but you just have to look past the tiny leather biker jackets

ALSo great for packs of tshirts, sporty, stripy etc. Not all with slogans etc on

Mines a bit older, for us H&M, Peacocks, supermarkets, occasionally Gap. They do have plainer leggings, jeggings, teeshirts etc if you look carefully.

Nice tops and leggings and all age appropriate!

Vertbaudet is really good if you want to avoid overly teenage looking clothes. I've bought a lot for DD there over the last few years for that reason.

I also struggled to find clothes for DD once she moved into the 7 plus ranges. I even emailed a few stores including M&S about it but their customer services were less than interested!!

Seems the buyers in our town are determined that over 6= tiny adult. None of that stuff in next was in our store.

Except for some plain blue skinny jeans. But they were cut so generously around the bottoms by the time I’d pulled the elastic in enough for dds waist she looked like she was in a nappy!

Online shopping can be so hit and miss and the returns process for H&M was a right PITA last time I used it. (Years ago but put me right off)

Online looks like the only way forward for now.

H&M have improved no end with deliveries and returns recently op, I received an order in 2 daysast month and was refunded within a week of sending stuff back
