Help me update my jeans wardrobe!

Having spent the best part of the last decade wearing skinny jeans tucked into boots, I'm a little stumped what to wear now they're going out of fashion.

It looks like looser jeans are now called for, but they're just so far out of my comfort zone that I don't know where to start...

Slim fit? Relaxed fit? Straight leg? Please don't suggest those dreadful Mom jeans.

And then there's the question how long they should be. Growing up, wearing too short jeans was the ultimate fashion faux pas, whereas now it looks like we're supposed to be getting cold ankles? Am I supposed to start buying them 2 inches shorter than previously?

I'm planning on wearing them with ankle boots (MN favourite Chelseas or shoe boots), loafers or Adidas Gazelles.

Please point me in the right direction....

just think I need to ease myself into it with an entry level slim fitting jean! grin

It’s a buggar because I just bought some really nice chelsea boots from Jones. I really want to move on from skinnies as they really make me look short but the move to cropped slim fit is even worse! The 90s served me well with long bootcut or flares which were worn with wedge sandals or slim ankle boots!

Monk - you can still wear wide leg/boot cut jeans if you want . I'm happy to be a 90s throwback if I know I'm wearing stuff that I feel comfortable in/suits me

Yes, I too long for the 90s bootcut days when you could enjoy a nice, pointy little ankle boot emerging daintily from your jeans or work trousers...Ah well - I’m still hanging on to some 7 For All Mankind bootcut jeans JUST IN CASE they’re back in fashion one day.

What about girlfriend? I've got a pair arriving today which I hope will move me on gently from skinnies. I'm a bit nervous though as like OP I've worn nothing but skinnies for years now
