Can anyone help me find the perfect cosy - yet not bulky - jumper?

Basically, I'd like to be warm but not shapeless I guess probably lambswool or similar for warmth without too much bulk?

Ideally I'd prefer a company with a decent ethics policy (at least non-sweatshop, European made even better. I'm really dubious about cheap cashmere). Blues & greens good, but I also love a good rainbow stripe etc.

I'm small & skinny, (5'1", about 7 stone) so really need somewhere that sizes down. Any help gratefully received from you S&B experts . . .

Should say budget probably up to about £100 as I'll wear and wear it. (Could even stretch a smidge further for the perfect jumper.)

Second Uniqlo. I’ve bought 4 jumpers from there recently and they’ve all got a great shape. I bought a cashmere one on sale last weekend and have worn it most days because it’s the cosiest thing ever.

a nice boden cashmere. You can get them cheaper but still new on ebay and likely machine washable

I think Boden, M&S and florence and fred (tesco) cashmere are all machine washable

I'll check out Uniqlo again. I'm reluctant as I said above to go for their cashmere though because of the desertification / etc /etc issues. I've looked at their merino jumpers before, but I'm just not that taken by the shapes - I prefer a more relaxed / slouchy look.

The Sezane jumpers look really good loulou - but the ones I like all seem to be sold out in the smaller sizes :(

I really rate Celtic and Co for knitwear. I have the 'Easy V neck jumper' in lambswool and it's been worth every penny. Very warm and a slouchy fit with a deep V neck which kind of stops it looking shapeless. (It does mean I need a T shirt underneath but I'd probably do that anyway.) I can't vouch for all their ethics but a lot of it's made in Britain and they do seem to be trying to do things the right way.

I've also seen Izzy Lane recommended on here although I've not tried it myself and it's probably over budget.

I can't agree with posters about Uniqlo cashmere - in my experience it was shite although I do still buy and rate their other knitwear. They also label it 'dry clean only', knowing full well that people are unlikely to do so at that price point so it basically means you've no comeback. I've since read up more about cashmere and desertification and share your misgivings. I only buy it second hand now.

I've actually found that there's a good sale on at Brora, with quite a few jumpers in my price range (merino not cashmere!), so I think I'm going to try one from there. But I have a nasty suspicion they'll come up too large (the more spendy brands often do) as the smallest is size 8-10.

What's the sizing like on Celtic & co? - as well as the jumpers I really like this dress, but a few of the reviews say it comes up large.

From what I've seen of Celtic & Co I'd say they were fairly true to size, maybe slightly running large but not massively so. I'm normally 8-10, sent for Small and Extra Small and it was a close call. I ended up keeping the Small for added slouch but XS fitted well enough.

I think I may have also tried that dress on in a second hand shop. (I walked away as I'd already spent a lot that month and by the time pay day came around it had gone ) As I recall, it was also true to size but it might depend on how you like your knitwear - I often prefer it slightly oversized.
