Fat and 50, what shall I do with my hair?

Inspiration please! I feel very old and fat and fed up. On the plus side i have long layered tousled hair, highlighted, which seems to get me a few compliments so that's nice. But it gets right on my nerves, takes ages to wash and condition and comb through and I hate the tacky feel of conditioner, but not using it is a total matted disaster. Also am starting to think I am too old for long hair! Ideas welcome please.

Just put it up every now and then. I like long hair on most people

Can you afford to have a blow dry once a week?

mattedhair · 16/02/2018 14:49

Thanks both. It's time that's more of an issue with going to a hairdresser every week. I have a crazy job with irregular hours.

If your hair gets you compliments, keep it in a similar fashion, or tie it back/up.
How about a longer messy/sexy bob. You sound like you've got good strong hair. It should be easier to manage, but still very you.

P.S. You are a mere chicken, fifty is nothing these days.
There are many beautiful women a lot older than you, with long hair.😄

Ah thanks Grin

I’m 55 and have long hair. It’s really the only thing I don’t have concerns about. I worry about my size, the fact that I’m fairly old fashioned, my feet are a mess and I can barely walk in anything but flat shoes which only adds to my somewhat squat appearance.

Two or theee years ago, on the advice of my mum, I had the lot chopped off. I felt I was a bit old for long hair. I regretted it immediately. My wardrobe felt wrong, my glasses suddenly looked huge on my head. Everyone said “get some interesting earrings” but I still felt just a bit ...plain. I’d had short hair throughout my 20’s and 30’s so, I was no stranger to a crop. I started growing it agin and now love it at below shoulder/bra strap length. I like to put it up in a loose pony/bun and do get compliments on it. I have highlights around my face to lighten my complexion and I love it.

My advice to you, if you feel it’s your best feature....leave it alone. Keep it in beautiful condition even though it’s a faff and just enjoy it.

Have you tried using a serum instead of so much conditioner. It's really helped me calm and control my shaggy layers.
