hair dresser on holiday - roots showing - what to do?!?!

DimpledUpperArms · 02/05/2007 09:26

Have left it as long as poss to have roots done and thought enough is enough and called hairdressers - my beloved hairdresser is away and so I have booked for the day she comes back (week and a half away) but I have a night out the sat before - how to I hide the horible witch lady hair that is becoming obvious?

I HATE home dye jobs but is this the answer? My hair dresser will be well pissed off!

Wear a hat

DimpledUpperArms · 02/05/2007 09:37

you know I have been sporting a stretchy hair band thing for a while so that suggestion is not too far off! But can't wear taht or a hat for poncetastic evening out.

Depends what colour it is - you can get kind of mascara things with temporary hair dye - washes out next wash, that might work if you've got grey roots and need them to be brown or red, but if you've got dark roots and need them to be blonde, I don't think you can do those.

JackieNo · 02/05/2007 09:58

Ooh - and you can get this in lots of colours. But is more permanent.

Greensleeves · 02/05/2007 09:59

Go to a different hair dresser?

LynetteScavo · 02/05/2007 10:00

Thankyou - you've just reminded me to make hair apt. Can't you get another hairdresser to do it? That's what I would do.

contentiouscat · 02/05/2007 10:02

Do you have a parting? I find sometimes if I change the way I style it slightly it is not so noticeable.

cremolafoam · 02/05/2007 10:03

i have used the root touch up stuff and it woked really well

LynetteScavo · 02/05/2007 10:10

A zig zag parting?

DimpledUpperArms · 02/05/2007 10:27

root touch up thing is a great idea - but not the permanat one - do the mascara type ones really work? Or I could do one of those wash in wash out things to toning it down.

I cannot go to a diffrent hairdresser - would be like having an affair! Took me years to find susie who gets how my hair works and so would feel a sense of guilt by even thinking about going elsewhere!

Know what you mean DUA.My hairdresser has just won Hairdresser of the year and now I can't aford herDh drew the line at £80 haircut.( Now charging £150 for cut and colour)
He used to walk past the hairdressers (big posh)car and say " i own that wing mirror"

Now i am really stuck as this lovely lady has been cutting my hair for 15 years and i have never had a bad haircut or disastrous colour.

Now i am struggling on with the Root touch up!LOL

Dimpled · 02/05/2007 10:38

creamola - I so feel your pain - why not find some money to pay the extra?

Value pasta and value grated cheese all round everyone - mummy needs her hair done!

(am I back to dimpled? the arms were getting me down)

JackieNo · 02/05/2007 10:39

I've used the mascara one on occasion (covering grey with brown), and it worked OK - not 100% brilliant, but enough to get away with it, especially if you concentrate on the front. Mind you, I did live in fear of getting caught in the rain, though I think it's supposed to stand up to that.

Dimpled · 02/05/2007 10:40

Jackie - do you remember what make it was?

cremolafoam · 02/05/2007 10:41

mmmn yes . I am thinking along those lines.Maybe I can go once a year instead of 3 times.LOL

JackieNo · 02/05/2007 10:42

Can't remember atm, though I think I bought it in Boots. I've still got it at home, I think, but I'm at work atm, so I can check later if you'd like.

Dimpled · 02/05/2007 10:44

thanks jackie - that would be helpful as I am going in to town tomorrow.

JackieNo · 02/05/2007 10:46

OK - I'll look later and let you know.

JackieNo · 02/05/2007 17:39

OK - I've checked, and it's the Trevor Sorbie Root Cover Up (bottom of that page - comes in blonde, brunette and redhead versions) - and I'm pretty sure I did get it in Boots.

Dimpled · 02/05/2007 19:13

oh goody goody god.

You star - will give it a try.

(now is the point where I would do all that "hugs/hun" stuff but I can never quite bring myself to!)

JackieNo · 02/05/2007 19:16
  • no, that's fine, your thanks is more than enough.
Dimpled · 03/05/2007 14:38

Jackie you are a star! I hunted it down in boots today (maybe even the same boots as you - saw you on JR thread!) took me a while and nearly bought a cheapy rubbishy one that my sis said is rubbissh but then found it - AND trevor sorbe stuff is on a 2 for £7 - this was £6.99 so got a big tub of recuse conditioner of 1p.

After those hefty savings went home 'painted' my hair and can now go to school pick up without a hair band.

...or in a shorter formatt:

THANKS!

DimpledThighs · 03/05/2007 18:30

don't worry jackie - I am not a stalker!

JackieNo · 04/05/2007 18:17
  • only just seen this. Glad it works. Didn't realise you were local-ish - I'm not in Oxford itself, but it's our nearest big town, so it's where I go for any major shopping, and clothes shopping.
