Paula's Choice BHA 2% exfoliant lotion and Decleor ylang ylang oil...help please!

Following recommendations on other threads, I've purchased Decleor's ylang ylang anti blemish oil and Paula's choice BHA 2% exfoliant lotion.

I have verrrrry oily skin that I can only keep in check using oil blotting sheets several times a day. I've recently got more blemishes but I think those are stress/ hormone related, and I have large pores and uneven skin. Basically, its awful.

The Decleor arrived first so I've been using that before applying moisturiser and makeup each morning. Haven't seen a difference yet but I didn't expect instant results.

The PC arrived yesterday, so this morning I cleansed, applied PC then Decleor followed by moisturiser and make up. My skin today is REALLY oily. Even more so than usual.

What have I done wrong? Should I just use one at night? Or should I just use one then change to the other if I see no effect after a few weeks or so?

I'm so totally clueless about skincare but the oiliness is really getting me down.

Any pointers please?

TIA

Just stop using the oil for now and try an oil free moisturiser like La Roche Posay Toleraine. Oil isn't really ideal for those with oily skin tbh.

But if your skin is feeling quite dry once in a while then use the oil but definitely not for everyday use.

oil itself should be moisturising enough, I wouldn't use an extra cream on top

How much oil are you using? Which cleansee do you use?

WrenNatsworthy · 15/02/2018 22:16

Do you get breakouts as well?
Neals Yard palmarosa range is fab for oily skin - I wouldn't recommend a facial oil.
How much facial oil are you using? I'd use half a drop after cleansing and toning and that's for the whole face.

I get this when I restart the Paula's bha. I think it's all the oil coming out of your skin as bha loosens it all up. My face is an oil slick in the mornings for a few days.
It does regulate and then the pores will shrink.

Try using it at night only and wash well in the morning.

Thanks all. I read lots of article that facial oil regulates excess sebum as your skin doesn't try to over-compensate for a natural lack of oil. Or something Confused

I use 3 drops as per the instructions so I'll try a bit less and try putting one of them on at night instead of both in the AM. Fingers crossed.
Cheers again

I have very oily skin, and only use oil at night. During the day, it would just be the PC and then a serum and sunscreen. I have tried oil during the day, but it doesn't make my skin glow. It just looks greasy. I an quite happily stack up the layers at night, and then give it a good wash in the morning.

With the Decleor oil, tip the end of the bottle onto three separate fingertips so you get a tiny amount on them and then press those on to the opposite fingertips on the other hand. Then apply to the skin in a pitter-patter motion like your playing the piano - like it’s gentle raining on your skin. Sounds nuts but you need such a small amount of that stuff. Also, you can private message Fiona Brackenbury at the Decleor on QVC FB page. QVC are big sellers of Decleor and have loads of videos on their website of Decleor being used.

naicethings That's exactly what I did last night, and this morning just used the PC, I don't use a serum though, what sort of thing should I be looking for in a serum? God I'm clueless Grin it's no wonder my skin is so terrible! At the moment I just use a Lacura (Aldi) moisturiser.

Newseeker I do the tipping the end of the bottle onto my finger tips but didn't know about applying it in that way, so I'll try that tonight, thanks very much!

allinclusive that's encouraging to hear, I'll carry on until the bottle runs out (I only ordered the 30ml to try it out after already spending a fortune on the Decleor!)

I tend to look for serum which have hyaluronic acid in them. I am currently using the nip fab dragon's blood one which is quite nice. However, one of the best ones I ever used was an Una Brennan Vit C one. Made my skin look lovely. I don't know why I stopped using it... I find a serum is enough for my skin with sunscreen on top. If I add moisturiser as well, it is too much
