Help! My lips are really dry and cracked and nothing I've tried seems to help. I've tried Burts Bees and Carmex, as well as Vaseline. Wondered if anyone has any recommendations? Happy to spend a bit on something that works. Thanks!

The Élizabeth Arden one comes in a lip protectant or a lip cream. Which one should I go for?

twoply any advice for lip gloss or lipstick? Sounds like I have similar allergies to you and I’m sick of wasting money. I am fine with Lancôme Juicy Tubes but I think they are being discontinued (Boots have already stopped selling them). Ideally lipstick I can try in a store to test colour, lip gloss I will take my chances on shades. Thanks!

CharlieBoo · 13/02/2018 21:24

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream is the best

Nicketynac · 13/02/2018 21:25

Oh and I have just ordered a Jack Black lip balm from Mankind, 1/3 off and free delivery so only a fiver

Corcra · 13/02/2018 21:25

La Roche posay is unreal. Cicaplast levres barrier repairing balm. Love it.

Growingboys · 13/02/2018 21:27

Yes that Nuxe one is brilliant

goose1964 · 13/02/2018 21:28

If it's cracked Blisteze is what you want ,it's the one in a tiny tube like miniature toothpaste ,then used a balm over the top

Blarblarblar · 13/02/2018 21:29

I’d go Bobbi brown. I’ve spent a fortune finding the one and now it’s all I use. Lasts about 4months. Its also got an spf so works in summer too.

phoenix1973 · 13/02/2018 21:29

Mine are so bad only savlon works.

PetiteMarseillaise · 13/02/2018 21:30

The Nuxe stick lip balm is nowhere near as good as the pot one.

Nuxe pot balm is the bee's knees for me.

Catatlarge · 13/02/2018 21:30

Ooh ooh!
Either Lanisoh. Purple tube.
Or there’s a company that make a ‘working hands’ tub of hand cream/foot cream. Bright green.
Well they now make a lip balm. It’s in an orange stick.
THE BEST lip balm I’ve tried this winter. It’s not weirdly glossy. No taste. No smell. Amazing

Pregnantandfierce · 13/02/2018 21:33

La mer is the only product that works for me. It is pricey but within a day my lips are hydrated and moisturised.

Squ1ggle · 13/02/2018 21:34

I am apparently allergic to most lip balms but I suffer from dry and cracked lips very badly. I've spent a fortune on different lip balm recommendations over the years but at the moment the most effective one (that I don't react to) is nivea lip butter in the little blue tin (not any of the flavours, just the original one)

howcomes · 13/02/2018 21:36

Best one is Palmers Cocoa butter formula lipbalm, it has 15 SPF too.

RedPanda25 · 13/02/2018 21:44

Wow! So many suggestions, thank you!

Lansinoh lanolin is the best thing for cracked chapped lips. A layer of it each night and your lips will be soothed, smooth and perfect again in two nights. It's my number 1 holy grail product, wouldn't be without it.

If you look at the ingredients in EA 8 hr cream, the most active are petrolatum and lanolin. The salicylic acid might help exfoliate a bit but won't do much for sore lips.

(Petrolatum 56.8%,Lanolin, Mineral Oil, Fragrance, Salicylic Acid, Propylparaben, Castor Oil, Corn Oil, Tocopherol, BHT, Iron Oxides.)

I've tried all the ones suggested upthread and the lansinoh (nipple cream) is by far the best one.

EnidButton · 13/02/2018 21:50

^i haven't tried the Dr Organics one.

Judydreamsofhorses · 13/02/2018 22:05

I really like the Nuxe one, but got a sample of Dr Lipp’s Nipple Balm with a recent Space NK order and it was something else - next time I do an order I’ll be putting that in my basket too.

FannyBurney · 13/02/2018 22:20

Lansinoh definitely. I’ve got a sample of dr lipp and it’s a nice little tube, but I’m sure it’s purified lanolin just like lansinoh.
Squeeze lansinoh into tiny empty screw top pots and melt in microwave then leave to set if carrying the big tube around annoys.

Ellapaella · 13/02/2018 23:26

I have the Nuxe lip balm - it reminds me very much of Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream. It's good for very dry cracked lips and I use it overnight but during the day I use the Carmex tinted lip pencil which is brilliant. Maybelline baby lips is also good.

PleaseDontGoadTheToad · 14/02/2018 00:00

Lush's Honey Trap is the only thing that sorts my lips out. The only downside is that it is pricey for a lip balm.

katplva · 14/02/2018 00:02

I love the Palmers cocoa butter lip balm too. It might also be worth checking if changing your toothpaste helps? I used to have very red dry lips but I changed to using a sensodyne toothpaste and my lips have been much better. I think I developed a sensitivity to my usual toothpaste over time.
