Is this dress dreadful?

I can't get past how bloody practical it is. I'm a teacher. Chuck that on with some flat lace ups. Done. I want it in both designs. Do I need a quiet sit down in a darkened room?

Birdy one is nice. Spots are a bit Mr Blobby.

margaritasbythesea · 11/02/2018 09:50

If anyone is disappointed at not being able to order the dress, i have just seen lots of swing dresses similar on the Marks and Spencer website. I am not keen on their patterns or colours but they might be someone´s cup of tea. They were all around twenty quid.

chaplin1409 · 11/02/2018 14:46

Maybe have a look on fatface too

Baileystruffle · 11/02/2018 14:49

I love it but neckline not the right shape for me. Trust your own judgement OP!

GrannyGrissle · 11/02/2018 15:37

They are really nice, quite 1940s ish.

Luckycatsplat · 11/02/2018 16:54

It's alright. Nothing spectacular but definately not awful. Very practical which is what ypu need.

Botanistinhiding · 11/02/2018 17:00

It’s very Boden - ive got at almost identical one, I like them - check out the phoebe dress:

NotAgainYoda · 11/02/2018 17:21

I am a similar shape and size to you. I also like casual dresses and would be initially interested in the ones you have posted. But I know from experience they look crap on. Just blah and like a night dress.. It's the T-shirt neckline

NotAgainYoda · 11/02/2018 17:23

Also, depending how old you are, the length can be a problem

NotAgainYoda · 11/02/2018 17:26

The Boden dresses are a much nicer shape

HildaZelda · 11/02/2018 17:29

How old are you OP? It's a bit 'sensible'.

Trills · 11/02/2018 17:30

I also came on to ask if it had pockets.

It looks like a very sensible useful sort of dress.

I would take it out of the washing machine, put it on a hanger, and definitely not go near it with an iron.

The Boden ones do have a nicer neckline, and they come in LENGTHS which could be useful depending on your height.

NotAgainYoda · 11/02/2018 17:32

The conundrum is that you want comfort - hence the jersey fabric. But the lack of structure plus the fabric plus of it's a little short = nightdress, or child-like dress. I am middle-aged though.

If you are young it can look more cute

Botanistinhiding · 11/02/2018 17:32

Yes, was going to say the phoebe dress I find mega flattering and useful for lots of things. I had it in 2 colours last year and it’s had lots of wear.

NotAgainYoda · 11/02/2018 17:39

Nice Joe Browns dress
Bit dressier but still comfy

neveradullmoment99 · 11/02/2018 17:40

Its gorgeous in black!

Flamingoose · 11/02/2018 18:40

The Boden one has pockets.

Have a look at the FatFace Simone dress. Very similar but nicer print

franktheskank · 11/02/2018 19:02

I can imagine a teacher wearing it. It's very inoffensive.

I think it depends on who's wearing it, the sleeves are slightly too long IMO but i see what you mean about it being practical and something you can just throw on.

misscheery · 11/02/2018 19:17

I love it! Long cardigan+scarf+sunglasses. It's lovely!

Flamingoose · 20/02/2018 09:13

It arrived. It's... okay, I guess. Not very flattering. It just sort of hangs from my boobs. No waist to it.

i always think with a dress that unstructured, either a good idea to size down, or try and belt it, it's a shame as the fabric looks nice. That's definitely not flattering as it is though. Unlike the boden one - this is why I've got so much boden as it does nip in where it should. Seasalt too.

franktheskank · 20/02/2018 16:19

I think it looks okay but would look better a size down.Smile

IHeartKingThistle · 20/02/2018 17:10

It's lovely! Stick a belt on it!

Thirtyrock39 · 20/02/2018 17:21

I love the print and colour but I wouldn't know what to wear it for- it's far 'dressier' than what i wear for work and a bit 'steady' for going out .
