The Ordinary 2% Retinoid - has anyone else found it drying?

Sorry to start yet another thread about The Ordinary (don't want to derail others).

After Mumsnet recommendations and that tv programme, I have been using The Ordinary's 2% Retinoid in Emulsion. Use it in place of Boots Protect & Perfect (?) serum thing. Otherwise skin care routine is the same.

No skin irritation or anything - but I am finding my skin is quite a bit drier.

Has anyone else found this? Is it a feature of retinoids and will this reduce over time?

Thanks!

I made a list of the sunscreens that are recommended over and over again.

Biore Aqua watery Essence (does contain some alcohol, so maybe not for drier skin).

  • Nivea Water Gel spf 50 - huge bottle, good value. Gel- like so disappears into skin.
  • La Roche Posay Anthelios facial mist or ultra fluid lotion
  • Etude House Mild Airy Finish SunPrise spf 50
⁃ Missha All Around Safe Block Soft Finish Sun Milk SPF50+/PA+++ (70ml) COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream SPF50 PA+++, 50ml

@BagelGoesWalking thanks for this list. I ordered the shisedo one off Amazon but I don't feel confident it is genuine. It is spf 50 but the price was too cheap!

I want to buy one from the UK that is reasonably priced too. I'm currently using simple but that is spf 30 only.

I've bought things off eBay from Korean and Japanese sellers with good ratings. Prefer that to Amazon.

You'll be able to find La Roche Posay one in the uk.

My 0.2% retinol has arrived. Do I let it sink then put my night cream over it? Do I stil need high sunblock with it being such a low%??

Beautifullymixed · 13/02/2018 20:22

lettuce yes, let it sink in.
If you haven't used a hyaluronic serum already, you can do so.
Then apply your facial oils or moisturiser.
Awake to lovely soft skin.

Lettucepray · 13/02/2018 21:38

Sure hope so! But knowing my luck I'll wake up to redness and flaky skin!

I've just got some of this stuff, I need to crack it open.

BagelGoesWalking · 13/02/2018 22:43

Lettuce definitely use sunscreen.

Been using my 0.02 % retinol in squalane every other night and have developed a huge boil on my chin!! I never get boils......should I continue???

LostInShoebiz · 20/02/2018 21:47

Keep going. I got those after a couple of weeks. I am glad I pushed through.
