Help - 80's outfit needed

nomoremagnolia · 30/04/2007 18:13

Any ideas what I can wear to my sister's hen weekend? The theme is 80's style and I've no idea where to start. Really can't remember what I wore first time round except shell suits and I'm not going there!
Only things I have so far is legwarmers and a hair crimper both borrowed from friends. Any/all help appreciated!

shoulder pads. Apparently maternity pads are just as good but I wouldn't want to risk that while grooving to Wham!

lulumama · 30/04/2007 18:32

am going to 80s party this weekend, and called on the might of mumsnet to help

am wearing leggings & batwin tunic top from matalan, neon pink hoop earrings, also matalan, and legwarmers and fingerless gloves loaned by two lovely mumsnetters, dimpledthighs and theblonde!

also got a choose love t shirt from tesco, designed by katherine hamnett fro true 80s look, if don;t wear batwing top

crimped hair, pearly pink lipstick and electric blue mascara , hot pink nails will finish the look!

nomoremagnolia · 30/04/2007 18:37

Ooh yes, neon make-up, will raid superdrug tomorrow. Was kind of thinking black leggings with baggy top of some kind (I'm not a mini skirt size!) and maybe doc martens? or legwarmers and trainers?

nomoremagnolia · 30/04/2007 18:44

Have a fab time anyway lulumama, I'll think of you while I'm boogieing to Wham!

The more I think about it (and look on the web) the more the stuff looks like what kids are wearing now...or am I just getting old?

lulumama · 30/04/2007 18:45

and you !

sadly , 80s 'fashion' is back in, guess it all comes back in the end

still, no better time for an 80s party is there !

Hayls · 30/04/2007 18:45

This thread is fab! I@m going to an 80s hen weekend soon and had no ideas on what to wear but have some now! Got pink converse trainers and some leggings so I'm sure I can get something together. Just need to decide what size is too big for a mini skirt now... any ideas?

Excellent! Have a great time. I was in my twenties in the 80s and thought the fashion was shite. 'Cos of course, it was.

Moral of this tale ... don't shop at Matalan unless you're going to a 1980s retrospective.

scorpio1 · 30/04/2007 18:55

Get the jewellery in claires accessories - cheap and cheerful!

scorpio1 · 30/04/2007 18:56

and as i offered to lulumama (still wanting pics BTW lulu!)i may, um, have some neon wristbands around here somewhere

Whizzz · 30/04/2007 19:06

I got loads for my 80s bash at Xmas

nomoremagnolia · 30/04/2007 22:03

Can't believe how many 80's themed parties there are going on! Am I the only one who'd rather forget the very dodgy fashion decade that was the 80s?

OP posts:
Heathcliffscathy · 30/04/2007 22:06

errrrr....look outside your window!!!! the 80s are back back back with avengence and some of it is great and wearable (leggings and tunic dresses for eg) but there is some utter HORROR out there and therefore available at a George at Asda/Hennes/Topshop/Primark near you!!!!!
