New thread for those hoping to add a bit of Parisian je ne sais quoi and je m'en fous to their style.

BB cream sounds lovely. I must give it a try. Scarf is very pretty colours. I always like the effect of light colours around the face.

Couple of recent purchases here. The Dries jacket - eBay bargain. Needs to be taken in around the waist (just a touch) and I should probably roll sleeves as they’re a shade short. Also bargain Dries skirt. Needs to be taken it which is why I have a hanger on the back of it holding it in! I would have paired it with white, but grey which botemp suggested is better I think!
Kudos to botemp for the leads.

I've never gotten on with the Bourjois CC cream, but I don't get on with most bases (difficult colouring). I do remember it was a lot more coverage than I expected.

quirky, that's a myth. They're not owned by the same company but there were once two factories right next door to each other that had many believing it was all from the same factory Hmm Bourjois does do some great makeup bits though.

I like that the top pockets are high on the jacket, Elle, rather than directly on the boobs, I agree a small nip in the waist and the sleeves rolled up or shortened will get the fit perfect. I love the skirt on you, it's so different than on me (also nice just different), must attempt to take another picture with it to show you. IM boots looking good there too, crikey, I've got you buying a lot.

I've decided I want a new bag for summer, don't know what, have considered the Staud Bisett bag for its whimsy but it was everywhere last year so it feels kind of 'eh'. Bit worried it'll be a bit stiff too and go too ladylike on me too. Also like the look of some of the Nico Giani ones but same worries as they're quite stiff.

Also, for whatever random reason a bit obsessed with the idea of Bois des Rose colour leather or suede, that sort of vintage dirty rose. Saw some shoes at Uterque in that colour but they're impractically high even by my standards but I like it as a variation on tan.

Maybe someone here might know where I could pick up a stylish leather flat navy sneaker style shoes ........I know that entire sentence is a contradiction in itself. I have a vision of chic Parisan women walking smartly around Paris in navy leather shoes that aren’t actual trainers. Smart casual I suppose but that sounds like they are for an old fashioned office environment whereas I want hip and stylish and waterproof and just anything but utterly sensible looking so please I implore you not to suggest Clark’s Hamble Oaks which I’m sure look great when you are already stylish but look like the ultimate sturdy sensible ‘walking shoe’ on moi....... Merci.

Hi I quite like these Jigsaw ones....simple, unbranded.

Interesting to know about Bourjois, bo. They do do some lovely makeup, though. I like Bois de Rose too, but agree it's not that practical.

Elle that skirt is gorgeous on you! It does look great with grey.

Rosie those are lovely navy trainers.

RosieLig · 18/02/2018 10:14

Currently in Geneva airport so had a look at those EL Envy lipsticks. They look gorgeous. I however look shattered so I think I’ll wait until I get home!

Zadig et Voltaire have a shop here. God the stuff is gorgeous. Fell in love with a black blazer but 500 Swiss Francs!!

I will see if I can find anything cheaper by them at home /on eBay. Really lovely t shirts too- not glittery but with a bit of kind of paint on sheen. Lovely in pale grey too.

Ship, when I was in Paris it was raining most days, but not pouring down, and New Balance trainers were very popular among the Parisians. I think it's the 996 model, they had versions in all suede or leather in all navy or black so the branding was very subtle. It worked quite well as a 'neat' trainer and they are proper walking shoes, not sure on the waterproof status but rainy weather seemed fine.

Zadig always annoys me as they'll embroider a stupid phrase or a skull or a heart somewhere where you don't see it at first. Their defile stuff is really nice though, albeit it pricey, I tried on that same blazer this season in a check version and it had a neoprene lining so fit beautifully, it's in the sale, it was a bit tight on my boobs though:

Thanks for the suggestions. The NB aren’t smart enough for the way I would wear them. I can visualise them looking great with a blazer and skinnies and full make up but if worn with skinny jeans and a knit, I think they will look very casual. I suppose I want the shoes to elevate my already casual look rather than make an already smart look casual if that makes sense?

The Jigsaw ones are closer to what I would like but I worry they look quite middle aged? Like them though I’m unsure if I love them. I suppose they don’t look very on trend/stylish to me.

Theshipsong · 18/02/2018 11:55

I am middle aged too Smile and I like them. But are there similar in Ecco. That is my fear 😀

Floisme · 18/02/2018 12:01

Theship I'm looking for leather plimsolls for this summer - not sure if we're after the same thing but basically I want a smart/casual, leather lace up. I don't mind a bit sporty but I don't like the shape of trainers. (Yes I am fussy.)

My last pair were fromTK Maxx - think they were Fred Perry - and that's where I'll look first.

Boden also used to do some and I really wish I'd bought a spare pair because now they've changed the shape and it comes higher up the foot like this which I realise probably offers more support but I don't like it. And no plain ones either apart from white. In fact I've just noticed they've started calling it a 'trainer' too!

ProperLavs · 18/02/2018 12:02

converse do low leather trainers. I want a pair in navy or white.

Floisme · 18/02/2018 12:05

Yes converse might work. I know some people find them uncomfortable but I prefer a low rise. It's not like I'm going to go running in them.

Theshipsong · 18/02/2018 12:26

Converse are too casual. I live in them so want to look more groomed.

If the Jigsaw sole wasn’t white, I think the would look better. The ‘gum’ sole is better I think?

botemp · 18/02/2018 12:46

Ship, are you essentially looking for a pair of Common Project sneakers at more reasonable prices? Pic is in black, but I'm pretty sure they have it in all navy too.

Hi everyone!!

Guess what? Mubaa emailed me a couple of weeks ago to say the jacket I had wanted was back in stock and so I ordered it and have been delivered of it and I like it a lot! It’s not actually the perfect tan I’ve been looking for at all (I do wish colours showed up better online), the colour name ‘burnt sienna’ should have given that away I guess, but I’ve kept it anyway because I actually really like it. It’s a great dark orange colour with lots of depth.

And I also got the right pair of shoes in the end, from Yoox, as I really wanted to wear them for our Christmas do. Was very annoyed that by the time the return for the incorrect pair had been processed the extra 20% no longer applied so I had to pay more, but oh well, it was worth it for a great pair of shoes.

I’ve kept up with the threads because I love the positivity and the principle of ‘I’m worth it’ that runs throughout, and because there’s so much of interest in terms of clothing and style, but haven’t posted because of other things going on in my life.

I can’t spend much at all at the moment so I’m focusing on using every piece I’ve already got in my wardrobe and making the effort to really appreciate all the lovely things I already have.

ProperLavs · 18/02/2018 12:59

Hooray for the Muubaa jacket!!
I can't wait for it to warm up so that i can wear my green one. ( and all the other leather jackets I am hoarding Blush).

Converse fit my skinny feet like a glove, I love them, but I get that different foot shapes would find them uncomfortable.

HolgerDanske · 18/02/2018 13:15

Dammit, I couldn’t remember if there was an extra ‘u’ in there and I was too lazy to check! Blush

In other news, I’ve decided to get myself a little mini Mac lipstick 💄 in Ruby Woo - I’ve got a voucher so it’s only going to cost me two pounds. Am I right that the colouring should suit a lot of people (hopefully including me, I mean) or do I still need to be careful? I’m basically looking for a good red that doesn’t show up any yellowness in my teeth, and I know that Ruby Woo is meant to be good for that.

ProperLavs · 18/02/2018 13:28

I don't know about Rubywoo, but I think there is someone on here who didn't get on with it. It all depends on you undertones.

HolgerDanske · 18/02/2018 13:36

I’ve never done my colours, I’ve always just worked instinctively.

I would guess that I’m either a summer or autumn but that’s based on only the very merest of understanding of how it all works. I think My veins look green, and I have brown/hazel eyes.

Anyone got a similar colouring and got on well with Ruby Woo?

ProperLavs · 18/02/2018 13:38

There are some reds that are better with cool undertones and some with warm. Apparently there are some that work well with any undertone.

I can do orange based reds but not blue used ones. If it's only going to cost you 2 quid get it anyway-I would!

Theshipsong · 18/02/2018 13:39

I have ruby woo and it is so drying I stopped wearing it.

If you wear a full face of make up, it looks ok but it isn’t the right lipstick for a less is more look. It can look a bit pantomime in my opinion. But that is just my opinion and at the beginning I liked it.

HolgerDanske · 18/02/2018 13:42

Oh ok that’s really helpful, thank you!

Definitely don’t want a drying formula, and I’m very much on the less is more side for make up.

Anyone got any recommendations for a good red that doesn’t bring out yellow in the teeth? My teeth aren’t actually all that yellow, to be fair, but I’m aware that they’re not bright white either.

prettybird · 18/02/2018 13:59

I'm loving the Dior 999 that botemp recommended to me way back on the first thread. I have the original (Satin) formula, not the matt and I find it quite moisturising.

It's a "true" red so I think would work with both cool and warm undertones. I suit orange reds or true reds - and I've got lots of compliments since I started wearing it. I'm not a heavy make up person either but having never been someone to wear bright red lipstick, I'm now getting into the habit of putting it on every time I go out.
