New thread for those hoping to add a bit of Parisian je ne sais quoi and je m'en fous to their style.

I’ve just read my way through all the threads and I’m totally inspired! Best of all, I’m going to France for a couple of days tomorrow. I’m particularly keen to hit up the pharmacies - any recommendations for must-haves that can’t be bought in the UK?

FlourishandBlotts · 13/02/2018 12:17

Long time lurker.

Has anybody seen the ILoveParis YouTube channel?! I love it, feels like I'm people watching in Paris...from my living room. Lots on Parisian style as well.

botemp · 13/02/2018 15:21

Flourish, is that the creepy semi stalkerish one? I saw a video of theirs in the summer, and it kept zooming in on side boobs and up skirts Hmm. I'm surprised it's still up tbh, France has really strong privacy laws, you're not even allowed to post pictures of your children on SM without their express consent. I only dared post my 'streetstyle' pics on here because they were so fuzzy they weren't identifiable. Please don't be scared off, I do so enjoy it when lurkers reveal themselves.

Thanks for the info on the sizing, cactus.

On a slight tangent from Everlane, someone mentioned being in the US, any opinion on Cuyana? Similar philosophies but they at least ship internationally, albeit at extortionate rates and you're at the mercy of import taxes.

I'm leaving the white bra for what it is, I bought a boatload of Stella McCartney bras from a Vente Exclusive sale yesterday (all lovely bright colours) and they have a Chantelle sale on from tomorrow.

The McQueen ones look lovely Elle, but the price tag is indeed a 'bit' high. Not sure if it's much better but I did see these (pic 1) in Paris (can PM you the link, they're at 60% off but still 204euros) but they're cord and a bit more casual. Max Mara is a good one to look at, they usually have silhouettes similar to that, almost skirt like, almost as if they kick out a touch at the bottom. I've attached a few pics from their site

bo to answer your question about Everlane, I think they come up exactly equivalent to UK sizes e.g Whistles. So an 8 in Everlane is a 12 in UK. I don’t find it too roomy or too loose but please bear in mind I’m very straight up and down except for boobs, if you go in a lot at the waist then probably size down? I can’t recall their smallest size, I think they do a zero so that might work for you. I do think their patterns are cut for the average to tall, probably because American women skew that way. I think their clothes look great on an athletic frame, again, might be a US thing, but works for me. For fit notes perhaps look at the Unfancy blog as I think she’s quite small (takes a 24 in jeans) and she wears quite a bit of Everlane.

Re culottes I bought these in the dregs of the net a porter sale. I think they will be beautiful in summer and am definitely going to enjoy the free flowing comfort of them vs my usual chinos.

FlourishandBlotts · 13/02/2018 15:39

bo I don't think so, I certainly haven't seen any up skirt or side boob shots. I've been watching, I assume filmer is a she, ask people on the street how they think chic is done. Quite interesting but can see how it can seem creepy and stalker-y...

SplatPancake · 13/02/2018 19:28

Can anyone remind me of the comments on Comptoir des Cotonniers sizing? Interested in a jacket- I’m short and apple shaped

Swimminguphill · 13/02/2018 19:42

It’s more generous than most, c.f. UK sizing it’s true to size but I take a size (or 2) up in the knitwear and tops in general because they are not made for my rower’s shoulders! You might find trousers long but perhaps can get them taken up? The wool wide legs are a perfect length on me but I have a 32” inside leg.

Swimminguphill · 13/02/2018 19:43

Sorry, re. Jacket I would say TTS unless you have shoulders like me

SplatPancake · 13/02/2018 21:39

Thanks swimming, I’ll ponder some more (it’s the £9 delivery and £9 return again that’s making me hesitate...)

botemp · 13/02/2018 21:52

Splat, check the Printemps site if they have it. They stock CdC at the same prices and offer free delivery and returns. Confusingly it's called placedestendances.com

Swimminguphill · 13/02/2018 22:19

Splat it’s really funny when you order because they have this warning notice that comes up at the top of your basket saying ‘take care when choosing sizes to avoid unnecessary returns’ or something like that. It just sounds really French! I always think yeah, now you come to mention it, I have been cavalier in my sizing choices, there’s nothing I love more than unnecessary returns...

But seriously, I know of 2 shops in London, one on the King’s Road and the other in Wimbledon Village, if you’re anywhere near either of those?

ToElleWithIt · 14/02/2018 08:16

That Printemps sight will be the death of any productivity this morning so I'm going to avoid.

Thanks for the trousers suggestions botemp I think corduroy is too casual for my work. Max Mara ones look good. I need to do a bit of thinking.

Swimminguphilll I snorted at your description of the warning. I love it. Might as well have "Are you sure you're really a 10; be honest with yourself!" Mind you there's times when I could do with that warning particularly where sales are involved.

I've looked at Cuyana before - lovely stuff. I like the look of the various overnight bags. I'm planning on visiting my sister later this year in the US so I may chance an order from there and Everlane and get it delivered to her so I can try on and return as necessary.

I'm off to London for work and will have a couple of hours around Regent Street. Planning a quick look in Liberty and Arket. Is there anywhere else round there that's worth a look that's not typical UK high street (as can get those at home)?

SplatPancake · 14/02/2018 08:27

Thanks for that bo, several hours of perusing later I’m no nearer making any kind of decision about the jacket, and have lots of other sudden new desires to cope with...

Unfortunately not Swimming, am in the muddy wilds of the rural south west...

ProperLavs · 14/02/2018 08:31

I can't open the link, it says the [age doesn't exist. Maybe that's a good thing though!

botemp · 14/02/2018 08:35

At the risk of employers everywhere cursing me for falling productivity levels, new UK brand just launched. Similar in aesthetic to Everlane but more ambitious in the charity department. 90% off the profits go towards charity and you as a customer get to pick which of their cherry picked causes and 5% always goes back to those who made the clothes. All simple relaxed basics in natural fibres. And they even have a shirt named after Flo Grin

Bo it doesn’t look like P de T ship to the UK, or do they?

botemp · 14/02/2018 14:05

Oh no, CJ! I just checked for my own country and saw a long list of the usual Euro destinations, but you're right, the UK is missing but strangely Ireland is on there Confused

Auld, it's all the Anglo-Saxons' doing, isn't it?

My bullshit horoscope did mention I wouldn't be all that loving today Halo

quirkychick · 14/02/2018 14:55

Well after checking out the ILoveParis youtube for makeup with silver hair, I'm feeling quite francaise Wink. I do all those things atm, good haircut, red lipstick, pink blush, concealer/highlighter under eye and grey eyeshadow with blue eyes. The concealer/highlighter and red lipstick are courtesy of this thread and watching too many makeup videos.

AuldAlliance · 14/02/2018 16:21

Bo, yep, I tend to find you can generally blame them for most things...

My very own T shirt - how exciting Grin Love the red but sadly I'm not sure how Flo-tastic that shape would be for me, especially the rear view. But I do like this cropped sweatshirt Do not be afraid, I would never inflict my belly on the public, but I'm thinking with a high waistline.
Pricey but I like the look of their ethos plus their low maintenance vibe. One to watch, thank you.

bananafish81 · 14/02/2018 22:57

Had drinks with a load of Parisian colleagues last night, and 4 separate people said how chic I was looking, ooh la la! Wore the raw hem Levis turned up with my trusty black pointed ankle boots, half tucked white shirt (avec rolled up sleeves, naturellement), double necklace action, Kiko red lippy and lots of compliments for my new honey blonde / brown blunt cut bob. Tres good for the confidence!!

BagelGoesWalking · 14/02/2018 23:52

Damn, banana, you sound hot! 😬
