Shoes or boots with this dress? Navy or tan? Surely not black?

I have bought this dress: www.warehouse.co.uk/gb/clothing/dresses/polka-dot-tiered-jersey-dress/031209.html?dwvar_031209_color=36&position=43&cgid=dresses#plpPosition=43&start=43&categoryID=dresses

What would you put with it? I was planning on navy tights and flat tan knee boots, but I tried them on this morning and now I'm not sure.

The model seems to be wearing black boots. Is a navy dress with black boots acceptable now? Surely not!

Maybe I should buy some navy Chelsea boots.

I like the navy Chelsea boots idea I think, but I'm not really that fashionable BlushGrin

holycityzoo · 22/01/2018 19:15

Black, navy too matchy matchy.

Jonsey79 · 22/01/2018 19:17

Oh really? Oh god, I am so out of date! Black boots and flesh coloured tights then? Or would black tights be ok?

I would go for red shoes with that dress 😁

Handbaghag · 22/01/2018 19:20

Dunno what that smiley was.. Supposed to be big grin!

Jonsey79 · 22/01/2018 19:21

Boots would do better because it's very short. Navy might be too matchy matchy

EggsonHeads · 22/01/2018 19:23

I'm pretty sure metallic boots a popular at the mo. I couldn't stomach it but it would probably work if you are trendy enough too pull them off.

SleepingKings · 22/01/2018 19:27

I think I’d go for black tights and either the red shoes you posted or tan brogues.

Tan brogues is a good new line of thought, thanks, will Google...

Depends what look you're after. If you want to look pretty/Sunday best as opposed to cutting edge funky. The shoes could swing it either way. I love the idea of the boots but I'm short and would look a bit silly. What look are you after?

Jonsey79 · 22/01/2018 21:10

Cutting edge funky would be the dream!

Definitely some chunky statement boots then in red!

Jonsey79 · 22/01/2018 21:23

With black tights?

I think red chunky ankle boots would look great but don't know about tights in that situation. Red tights and tan ankle boots would look fab if you were confident about carrying it off.

I think black tights would just look like you'd pulled the wrong tights out. Black and navy look great but it has to look deliberate and I'm not convinced black tights with this dress would look deliberate, I think it's the red dots. I'd think your best chance might be black tights and boots. But I'd be lazy and wear navy tights and ankle boots with a red coat or statement bag.

CountFosco · 22/01/2018 21:59

Or a red statement belt. But only one red thing, tights or shoes or bag or coat or belt and everything else navy or tan (except the tights, no tan tights).

Handbaghag · 23/01/2018 07:25

I'd go navy tights red boots 😃

Thanks for all the advice! I'm going shopping at the weekend in search of brogues or Chelsea boots Smile
