Has anyone managed to find summer hats for a 2 yr old girl that are neither frilled, incredibly babyish or cost an arm and a leg?

I've looked everywhere except Next and Monsoon baby (which no doubt will have the perfect hat but be stupid money) and am popping into both thisaffy on my way back from Lidl (dead classy, me).

All the hats for little girls this year in the 'normal' shops are so naff - tons of frills, daft shapes, colours that would only go with one or outfits (lime green and red, anyone??) or they cost about a tenner - as dd's MO is to hurl them from her head whenever she gets bored, I refuse to pay more than a fiver for a hat, as I'll need several.

Last year I found some lovely hats, pink and dark denim with embroidered flowers, paddington bear-style with a brim (iykwim - not up on hat terminology!) that suited her down to the ground. This year, nada!

If anyone has any handy hints, I'd be much obliged. Our shopping centre isn't teh best but it's got most of the major chains - I've looked in Mothercare, M&S, Boots, Adams and Benetton so far. Only missed out Next, Bhs and Monsoon as they're all upstairs with mad lifts that I'm afeared of using....

Cheers!

We got one from Matalan, £2-£3 i think.

wildwoman · 27/04/2007 14:51

I got mine from Asda (sshhh) for £1.75 pink with blue flowers

USAUKMum · 27/04/2007 14:55

Tesco hats are usually good too -- haven't seen this years as our clothing bit being redone at the moment, but last year they had lovely straw ones.

Lovecat · 27/04/2007 15:13

Ooh, thank you!

I'd looked in Sainsburys but they were pretty grim too... will go further afield and see what Asda/Matalan/Tesco have to offer (they're all pretty close together on an out of town lot, so we shall have an outing - joy!)

Asda have loads, and cheap too. All different designs

HonorMatopoeia · 27/04/2007 15:24

H&M have some really (god, please excuse this next word, but can't think of an appropriate replacement!) funky ones - very cheap, under £3 definitely.

MrsBadger · 27/04/2007 15:38

ooh, we were given one in the last bag of clothes doing the rounds from the cousins - it's labellled 'the floppy hat co.' or 'the cotton hat co' or some such - I'll check when I get home.

Or Vertbaudet have this one, whihc sounds perfect but is a bit pricey.

nailpolish · 27/04/2007 15:40

£11.99?

MrsB Asda have ones like that for two quid

MrsBadger · 27/04/2007 15:43

bet they do but they have no website and I have no Asda.

Bottom right one here any good?

Troutpout · 27/04/2007 15:58

H&M

M&S have a few nice ones atm...but bit pricier

Tesco usually have some good ones

LaCerbiatta · 27/04/2007 16:17

I got a nice one from gap. It was a bit pricey but was the only one I could find with a tie. The other ones get lost on the first outing. But I need to buy more, does anyone know where I can find them? Cheaper would be great. The H&M, TEsco's and boots ones I saw didn't have it. Ta

matalan, white pink, stripy sort of close knit woven tyoe with brim £2!..dd has 2, will buy other colours for hol!

Lovecat · 29/04/2007 13:20

Thanks so much for all the tips, have not been to Matalan or Asda as yet, but I took a look in Next and ended up buying the pink embroidered hat in that link, Mrs Badger, not the one you meant, I think, but it met with both dd and my approval (she's getting a bossy little thing in her old age!) so we purchased it forthwith.

Thanks again!

Millets.

JARM · 29/04/2007 17:39

I got the girls blue reversible ones from sainsbos - blue checked one side, plain blue the other.

My view - blue will go with most of their stuff coz I HATE PINK!

WideWebWitch · 29/04/2007 17:43

Woolworths have £2 nice caps

JaneAustenAllegro · 29/04/2007 18:01

Primark have a nice white hat with little cherries on it, only £1.50 I think. Also lots of nice sunglasses.

Not that DD will wear either for more than 2 minutes, but I must at least attempt to make her wear them I suppose....
