Curly hair hairdresser in London?

Does anyone know of a hairdresser good with curls? I’m Zone 2 so can travel anywhere for someone good. I’m a wash and go person which seems to disgust most hairdressers and just want a really good cut!

This lady seems very popular - I think you might have to wait a while to get an appointment with her www.lindseyhughescurlwhisperer.co.uk/
I haven't used her myself but I have seen a lot of good comments about her.

Unruly Curls around NottingHill are amazing - they have 2 salons in the area
I went there this week after a lifetime of "normal" / non curly experts. I paid extra to see the director but it was worth every penny. He spent ages just looking at my curls & told me I have 3 different curl patterns across my head (who knew). Very impressed

Thank you, I will look into them!

I can also second Lindsey Hughes in Farringdon. I’ve just had my hair cut by her for the first time and apart from cutting my hair really well she’s a very warm welcoming person.

It was great to go to a hairdresser who gets enthusiastic over your curls rather than automatically ask if you want it straightened!

Has anyone been to the curly hair stylist Stephanie who works out of a salon off Charing Cross Road?

A MNer posted a photo of her cut from Lindsey a while ago but tbh I didn't think it warrented £115.

I normally get a cut from these guys. They are mobile and are really good with curls.

FirstOfHerName · 30/01/2018 15:08

Curly Way were good but cut off too much when I had a cut with them. Also, I don't have time to individually curl each strand of hair every day, like they showed!

EssentialHummus · 30/01/2018 15:18

I loved Jay at Curly Way, but when she went on mat leave I had a cut with her "Senior Director" (actually her mum) who gave me a terrible cut Sad. Ended up going to Unruly to sort it. I was really upset after the brilliant job Jay had done.

FirstOfHerName · 30/01/2018 15:38

@EssentialHummus, was that Youliana? I had no idea she was her mum! IIRC, she mentioned having a daughter who was pregnant and that Jay was pregnant too, but never said they were the same person! My cut with her was ok but not good enough to make me want to go back. At the time she mentioned that they'd be setting up a permanent salon on the Isle of Dogs.

It would be a bit of a trek (but half the price) but the best haircut I've had has been with Hazel at Belli Capelli who has now done 5 or 6 good cuts in a row for me. She doesn't claim to be a specialist curly hair stylist but she looks at the shape of your hair before cutting, then cuts it wet, then makes some small adjustments once it's dry if necessary. The salon is lovely too with just two down to earth stylists working there and a lovely relaxed, non-intimidating atmosphere. I actually enjoy going there, and that's saying a lot because I used to hate going to the hairdressers!

The only stylist I've been to who is well known for being good with curly hair is Thomas Macmillan and I have to say that my cuts have been better with Hazel.

EssentialHummus · 30/01/2018 16:16

first - yes, that’s her! Jay also kept referring to “my other director” which in hindsight sounds absurd. But yeah, not using Youliana again.

MightyMunki · 30/01/2018 18:18

Omg I did not know they were mother and daughter??! The Unruly guys look good.

Chocwocdoodah · 30/01/2018 22:51

Firstofhername - I’ve been to Stephanie. It cost £65 for a cut ( think the price you quoted probably included a colour). She is really good. Made my hair curlier than it’s been in years. She basically dry cuts your hair so she can see your curls/ shape of your hair as she’s cutting. She then washes it and sits you under the dryer which is the best way to dry curls.

The only disappointing thing is that the salon she works from is not her own, she just rents a chair there and it’s a really ropey, old-man hairdressers. For the price, I was expecting a lovely salon experience....but ultimately I want a decent haircut so I have been back and am planning to go again.

Do you have an address or contact details for Stephanie? Sounds like a good location for me...

FirstOfHerName · 31/01/2018 10:53

She's in a salon on Denmark Street, where all the music shops are. curlyhairlondon.co.uk/

CantChoose · 31/01/2018 11:33

Thanks!

Chocwocdoodah · 31/01/2018 12:39

Yes that’s the one - she’s usually pretty booked up though so you might have a bit of a wait for an appointment.

zippyswife · 31/01/2018 12:44

I’m not sure if Lydia keen does curly hair...

QueenOfTheAndals · 31/01/2018 12:56

I love Unruly. Particularly Claudio. Only times I've ever had my haircut and not tied it up the minute I left the shop.

kohl · 31/01/2018 15:20

I have a 1st time appt with Emma at unruly this week so I can let you know, it has some great reviews...am so hoping it'll be good...

CantChoose · 31/01/2018 23:00

I had a look today but she doesn’t do wednesdays which is my day off so I’d only be able to do Saturdays which doesn’t really suit me. I’ll have to keep looking!! Thanks anyway :)

kohl · 02/02/2018 20:15

Unruly curls is amazing-best hairdressing experience ever. I think you could get a cut with anyone there & they'd be great.

Byrdie · 23/09/2018 13:20

I'm still looking for a hairdresser that gets my curly hair. I've been to two who are well regarded but neither have really made much of an impression. I'm not massively hard to please but I do want someone to make it look better than I can with my trial and error approach. Anyone know any in the buckinghamshire area that they recommend? My hair is normal european hair - i can get it straight but prefer it curly. I guess it's a mix of corkscrew and some loose waves.
