Where would you look for a dress? It’s black tie so I’m guessing it’s should be long? I have looked at Coast, where else might I look?

There were loads and loads in the sale at House if Fraser in Birmingham recently, I'd give them, Debenhams, John Lewis etc a try.

TK Maxx?
the Outnet?
Biba (I think at House of Fraser) esp in sale

Sorry, can't do links but they have some fabulous evening wear!

45 - I think Phase Eight is good, particularly their jumpsuits which are a really good option (in my view!) for looking relatively current and stylish at the same time.

Phase 8

dementedma · 18/01/2018 19:24

ebay! I have got some beautiful long dresses on there for black tie events.

CountFosco · 18/01/2018 19:45

I got my dress for our work Christmas party from HoF. You'll probably get a bargain in the end of the sales.

museumum · 18/01/2018 19:55

I would trawl the concessions in John Lewis.

herecomesthsun · 18/01/2018 20:03

Were it me, my first port of call would be our local hospice shop actually.

"Ball" attire tends to be fairly classic rather than changing a lot with fashion, and there would likely be a fair few fancy items only worn once (very well laid out shop in well to do area)

Chicinwellies · 18/01/2018 20:44

Under the dress form out for some supportive underwear! John Lewis and Phase Eight

Ebay. But only buy new. I’ve had brand new designer dresses for under £30. Then sold them for more than I bought them for. You have to know what suits you and only go for quality. Great fun.

Monsoon and Karen Millen haven't been mentioned yet and are probably worth a look.
