Do you like Louis Vuitton?

And why/why not?

I have a vintage Louis Vuitton Noe bag, designed to carry 5 bottles of champagne, it was made the year I was born and was an 18th birthday present. I love it and have replaced the tie with silk scarves or ribbons to change the look. I wouldn't buy another monogrammed piece from LV but I love this bag. I think that fact it isn't all new and is pretty beaten up takes away some of the z list celeb image (or at least I hope it does!)

WhooooAmI24601 · 16/01/2018 11:48

I have a Neverfull GM in beige for travelling; it's so enormous and practical. I also have a NeoNoe in pale pink which I love. I'm less keen on the monogram bags but the NeoNoe is cute and unless you look closely there's very little branding (I'm not a huge fan of any sort of branding, tbh).

ElspethFlashman · 16/01/2018 11:54

I have a few bits. I don't use the monogrammed bag anymore as it's just out of style. I keep it for my daughter.

But I have a monogrammed weekend bag (a Carryall) which I have used constantly for the past 10 years for every weekend away and it's the best purchase I ever made. It's indestructible and looks good as new and fits loads.

I do think the quality is really really good. So I would definitely buy the brand again. But I probably wouldn't buy the monogram print next time. I have my eye on a cross body Speedy Bandoliere, you can just chuck it on and throw everything into it and it'll last for years and years and years.

CoolCarrie · 16/01/2018 12:41

Nope, tacky, I like Radley and Lulu Guinness.

BusterTheBulldog · 16/01/2018 12:48

Love them, lusting after the Pochette Metis at the moment, but also being sensible.

You can spot the fakes a mile off.

Yes, but only the Damier print and Epi Leather, not the monogram print. I hanker after a cream Damier Speedy 30.....

I treated myself to a black Epi Leather pochette when I first went to Ascot. It has lasted years, gone on several nights out and still looks as good as new.

franktheskank · 16/01/2018 14:15

I quite like a monogram! I like the LV ones and I have the Gucci tote with the gg all over it. I think it depends what you wear.

Today I'm wearing black skinnies with black ankle boots and a white shirt with my Gucci canvas tote. I think it looks nice Smile

queenofarles · 16/01/2018 18:48

Not really, don't like bags with obvious logos all over, the two Chanel reissues I have are about the most obvious "branded" bags I have.

TheOtherGirl · 16/01/2018 19:01

Depends very much on the provenance of the bag. My Aunt has several, which have travelled the world with her over the last 30 years. They look beautifully worn in, not badly worn out.

But when seen on the arm of some WAG, squawking double negatives into their mobile, then no. Just no.

mrscampbellblackreturns · 16/01/2018 19:05

I use the neverfull a lot in the damier print for carrying my laptop etc. Also very useful for travelling as pretty indestructible.

falang · 16/01/2018 19:06

I always think it's a fake when I see anyone with it.

LoadsaBlusher · 16/01/2018 19:50

Nope
Never understood the fascination with these
Hate logo type things
Hated them in the early 2000’s when they done the tacky graffiti style
Still think all the traditional brown logo stuff is awful

Each to their own though

EchoHead · 16/01/2018 21:14

No, they look ugly.

FucksakeCuntingFuckingTwats · 16/01/2018 21:17

I think the logo is ugly especially on brown bags and I think the brands been completely cheapened by the numerous counterfeits. Can never tell if it's fake or genuine so bugger paying a fortune for a bag.

moochypooch · 17/01/2018 07:17

I think you have to look very expensive for their logo'ed bag not to drag your look right down. I feel that about a lot of high end obviously branded handbags - at best they suggest an insecure showiness but also if you aren't dressed up to their level, they just look fake.

Clickncollect · 17/01/2018 07:45

Hmm, I have 3 - all purchased between 15 and 20 years ago when I first started working in London. Two are the LV monogram print and 1 is the Daimier. I do still use the daimier occasionally but not the monograms but can't bring myself to part with them as I remember how chuffed I was when I bought them. And they were around £300-£350 per back which was a lot of money back then too although I think they go for double that now! All of them are in superb condition still.
Am just not really into the huge logo thing these days - prefer Mulberry day to day but I do have a couple of Chanels but not the classic flap so they are more understated and most wouldn't realise they were Chanel.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 17/01/2018 09:25

Why do you ask, OP? Are you a customer or do you work for LV?

I don't like them either, not that my opinion need worry the brand as I can't afford one even if I wanted to! But if I did earn the money to afford high end bags I'd get something without logos that seemed good quality - and I wouldn't waste £11k on a bag when I could get something gorgeous and durable for under £1k.

MissSpock · 17/01/2018 10:09

Why do you ask, OP? Are you a customer or do you work for LV?

Neither. Just curious.

AnaWinter · 17/01/2018 10:14

I am not overly keen although I think the Neverful’s are handy for travelling.

LV is not as bad as Michael Kors though.

ElspethFlashman · 17/01/2018 10:41

In fairness you can get a Speedy for well under 1k (I believe) and they'll last you a lifetime. You can't get many high end bags for under 1k these days that will last that long and have a high resale value.

IHaveBrilloHair · 17/01/2018 15:02

I'd love one, way out of my price range though, they are gorgeous.
Theothergirl, what do you mean about provenance, like where it was bought?
I'm not sure I understand your point.
I do get worn in, but then that can be done using it to do the supermarket shop, it doesn't necessarily mean has travelled glamorously.

smashbake · 17/01/2018 15:20

I did last century. But not now.

CompassionateKebab · 17/01/2018 21:31

No. Overpriced for what they are. Price is not necessarily an indicator of quality nor style. As pp said above, if you don't dress/have a lifestyle that equals them, people will assume they are fake.

dudsville · 17/01/2018 21:33

The ones I see about remove me of calvin klien underwear or that famous mac brand... in that they apart to be vehicles for the label as opposed to being a nice thing in itself.
