Question for Mrs Badger re rucksacks

So what should one wear if needs to carry around a lot of stuff, cycles and gets back pain when using anything that doesn't distribute the weight evenly?
I think i'm not too unstilish and I don't think my rucksack looks good at all (even though it's not a sporty one, it is a black one with brown leather bits) but I'm yet to find an alternative.... I tried wearing a very nice leather satchel (?) one I have but the shoulder pain was just too much...
Suggestions please!

performance hiking-type rucksack for cycling is allowable (so long as in subtle colours and not overfilled) - actually performance ones often look better than high-st type ones as the straps don't dig in and crease your top so badly.
but I'd use the satchel and put it in the basket myself.

Have you tried a proper courier bag with a stabiliusing third strap?

LaCerbiatta · 26/04/2007 15:49

Yes, putting it in the basket is an option but on Fridays and Mondays I need to carry my laptop as well, so needs to be on my back...
What's a courier bag?

those one-shoulder rucksack type things
tried to find a pic but no-one would cooperate [grr]

hang on

MrsBadger · 26/04/2007 15:59

still can't find a good pic of someone wearing one

but this kind of thing - one strap goes across your body and there is an extra strap that goes under one arm for stability and to distribute the weight.

MrsBadger · 26/04/2007 16:11

aha, look here and click the bottom right thumbnail pic on the left - see the strap going under his arm?
A few of the other pics show it too.
