I've just ordered this bag, do you think it's nice?

I didn't ask for any Xmas presents from DH this year so I could treat myself to something in the sales.

What do you think of this bag I've just ordered?

I have been craving a nice cross-body bag for about 2 years, I stupidly bought a shoulder one that can't be worn cross-body for my 40th and though I love it I never use it :(

I have rediscovered my love for black bags and I like minimalism.

This one fits the bill in many ways, then! I think I love it but obv only seen it online so far. I can return it if I don't like it enough.

Is it boring though? And does anyone know about Sandro quality? It would have been VERY pricey full-price but if it's nice quality I think the sale price is decent.

I am VERY fussy about bags (getting more so as I get older) so I so rarely find one I like. Cross-body ones in partic as they are often far too hippy-ish/boho for my (very pared-down minimalist) style.

It sounds perfect for you OP, and also looks like it won't lose its shape as it's quite structured. I wouldn't worry about it being calfskin, it's a by product of the dairy industry which I'm sure many of the posters objecting to the bag partake in.

Gatekeeper · 11/01/2018 19:27

ConfusedWhy is it barbaric to have calf skin and not cow hide? Surely they are both by products of the meat industry

Bluntness100 · 11/01/2018 19:58

Cowhide is mature animals over three years old, killed for meat basically.

Calfskin is animals less than three years old and predominantly raised to be veal.

I guess both are raised for their meat. Older for dairy also. The question is do you have a moral issue with a young cow being killed for veal and it's skin, v the older animals, also raised for their meat, dairy.

Many people won't eat veal or have calfskin due to the short lifespan of thr animals and killing them so young when they are still calf's.

Deathraystare · 12/01/2018 08:38

I love the grainy leather look!

Mature beef cattle are killed at 18 months. Ex-dairy cattle will be killed at an older age after they no longer produce enough milk but that meat is of lower quality. Veal is made from the male offspring of dairy cattle. If they aren't reared for veal they are killed sooner. If you are happy to eat meat (I am) I can't really see why the ages of the animals matter. If you eat good quality beef (killed at 18 months), lamb (killed at 6 months), high welfare pork (killed at 10 months), or chicken (killed at 10 weeks) then why does the age of rose veal matter?

mumof2sarah · 12/01/2018 13:53

I love this bag ❤️❤️❤️

Iwanttobe8stoneagain · 13/01/2018 07:36

Love the bag ( personally prefer the other colour as not big fan of black leather but that’s just me). Might order one myself too at that price. As I drink milk and realise the farmers can’t keep the male calves of dairy cows as pets not fussed about the material.

Hippadippadation · 13/01/2018 08:05

I really like it.

pasturesgreen · 13/01/2018 09:08

Love the bag!
I expect those to object to it being calfskin go around in canvas shoes and don't drink milk or eat dairy Hmm

Bubba1234 · 13/01/2018 09:12

It’s fab. It’s the type of bag you will get so much use out of.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 13/01/2018 11:31

I think it's nice too. Classic and understated. Like that it has silver hardware too.

The calf skin thing raised by pp has given me pause for thought though. Is it not the case that unless you are a vegan, surely everything we do is harmful/unfair to animals. Is it not equally wrong to kill an adult cow for non essential goods?

SandAndSea · 13/01/2018 12:13

To clarify my calfskin comment, yes, I am dairy free and don't buy leather bags.

(Tbh, I think that wearing a baby animal's skin is pretty sick but, each to their own.)

Chocrock · 13/01/2018 12:19

Beautiful bag looks like it ticks all your boxes. I haven’t bought a bag from Sandro but the clothes I have are all good quality.

midnightmooch · 13/01/2018 12:20

I thought the ethical objection to white veal was in regard to the conditions it was bread in - not the age it was killed. Is it only calves that upset non-vegan people? - what about chickens or lambs?

Tippexy · 13/01/2018 12:28

I saw this bag in the sales and it was lovely. It ended up being a very close second to the one I finally bought, I think you’ll love it!

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 13/01/2018 14:53

Presumably you realised straightaway it was leather then, whether calfskin or not.

Appuskidu · 13/01/2018 14:59

The brown one is ok, but I have to say that I’m not too keen on the black one.

Estellanpip · 13/01/2018 19:07

That's a great purchase. Love the silver hardware too

SandAndSea · 13/01/2018 19:56

@AllPizzasGreatAndSmall

No, I didn't realise it was leather. It didn't even occur to me until I saw someone else's comment on it.

Why? What does it matter?

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 14/01/2018 00:29

It just seemed strange that you could have clicked on the link, looked at the bag, which even at half price was £150, and thought it could be synthetic.

MyPreciousWaja · 14/01/2018 11:58

It's really nice but maybe a but be too "stiff" and boxy for my taste. I looooove the Kate Spade one and what a good price
