Any swimming costume recommendations for tall people (or those with long torsos)?

As the thread title suggests, I’m in need of a (nice, ideally) swimming costume to fit me - I’m 5’10 and have proportionally short legs, so I have quite some torso to cover Grin . I really want to get back into swimming, plus I have a couple of hen parties in spas coming up, so I do need to buy something and I’m keen to hear any genuine recommendation.

For reference I’m slim (size 8-10) but not massively body confident, and definitely need decent bust support!

I'm your height and I find speedos good. I'm large of bust and they do hold everything in place too!

slippermaiden · 10/01/2018 21:56

Has to be a tankini. I'm tall and would never wear a one piece again.

Maremaremare · 10/01/2018 22:00

Long Tall Sally

DeputyBrennan · 10/01/2018 22:05

@DearTeddyRobinson your reply is very encouraging - I’d just assumed most braands without a dedicated tall/long range wouldn’t work for me, so had pretty much written Speedo off. I’ll have to try some on, I guess Smile

@slippermaiden Tankinis are my backup plan! I wore them all the time when I swam a lot in university, but the tops would always ride up, which I did find irritating Angry

The Zoggs Brisbane comes up pretty long in the body.

Polyanthus · 10/01/2018 22:13

Lands end do tall fit swimming costumes. ( or at least they used to - I don't swim regularly and I bought mine 5 years ago!). Not the worlds most exciting ones but the fabric is v g quality and they fit. I go for tankinis or bikinis on the beach but for actually swimming in a pool prefer a one-piece.

witchmountain · 10/01/2018 22:14

Sorry to be less encouraging but I'm an inch shorter than you and I find speedos awful!

This Boden suit comes in a long, although only in a 10 and not an 8, and I have found their long suits are long enough: www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/womens-swimwear/swimsuits/s0018-blu/womens-blue-multi-spot-wrap-front-swimsuit.

The best place I found for something in a long length that wasn't padded and ruched (although they do those too) was Lands End, but at the end of last year there was much more choice on the US website than the UK one. The US site ships to the UK but you might want to figure out your size on the UK site first because returning anything to the US is expensive. My friend is tall with a long body. Always tankinis for her.

SottoVoc3 · 10/01/2018 22:40

Some brands do swimming costumes specifically for longer bodies:

Lucked · 10/01/2018 23:07

M&S do longer length swim suits as well. They don’t have any in stock at the moment but worth having a look if you need a more fashion/pool side swimsuit for summer.

michael phelps costumes.recommended by a 6 foot lady I met

MumMoselle · 10/01/2018 23:36

I am a similar height and have a tankini from Long Tall Sally. I also have a full swimming costume too. They are not the cheapest place but they fit and have lasted a long time (years in my case!)

SwimmingInTheBlueLagoon · 10/01/2018 23:37

Zoggs Ella longer length. It was the only longer length one I could find that doesn't have that vile mesh 'tummy control' stuff. Yet it's supportive all over (so no wobbly bits) whilst still feeling completely unrestrictive.

SwimmingInTheBlueLagoon · 10/01/2018 23:40

Oh and the zoggs one is currently reduced to £13.99 on amazon

BluebellGal · 10/01/2018 23:42

Bravissimo has a selection and I’m same height as you, also long in body. Be warned- they are expensive though

magimedi · 11/01/2018 08:04

Sports Direct (I know......) do Slazenger costumes that are long in the body & under £10 . Not beautiful but fine for ploughing up & down doing lengths. I buy a size up from normal & find them v. comfortable and I struggle to find swimwear that is long enough in the body.

CMOTDibbler · 11/01/2018 08:08

I buy the Slazenger boy leg costumes too, and I see a lot of women at lane swimming in them too. They don't last very long (3 months with regular swimming approx), but at the price they are I have several.

I also have a couple of Uglies, and a Panache cup sized one which I generally use for not proper swimming

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 11/01/2018 08:08

Zoggs was the only ones which fit me. I have a classic black one with ruching, not sure of the name.

10thingsIhateAboutTheDailyMail · 11/01/2018 08:17

I am 6ft 1 and wear most zoggs ones without a problem

DeputyBrennan · 11/01/2018 08:24

Great, thank you all for the recommendations. The Slazenger and Zoggs ones are really well priced - I’m definitely going to order a couple of different ones to try for everyday wear.

I’d like to get a ‘nice’ (pretty) one for lounging/spa, for which I’d be happy to pay a bit more, so will check out Bravissimo, Long Tall Sally and the likes for that.

@witchmountain I really like the Boden one - it looks very flattering. I just looked on Lands End and am now slightly disappointed that their tall range is so minimal at the moment, as they have some really nice styles Smile

I’m the same height as you and also have a long torso, so share your swimming costume woes! But I bought this one at M&S yesterday and it fits like a dream. If you look under the sizes it comes in both regular and long lengths, and it was the latter I bought.

tigerrun · 11/01/2018 09:41

I've got this one (I'm 6' but a bigger size than you sadly!):

www.figleaves.com/uk/figleaves-edge-colourblock-shaping-swimsuit---longer-length/FIG-006457.html?dwvar_FIG-006457_color=743487&cgid=swimwear#start=2

It's really lovely, comfortable & long in the body as well as flattering. There are a few other longer length ones on there too.

sanitygirl · 11/01/2018 13:00

I have a Zoggs suit with an "open" back style - similar to the "strikeback" and "sprintback" styles currently on their website. I'm 5'9 size 14 and size up - it's the best suit I have in terms of body length. I find Speedo v short.

leedy · 11/01/2018 15:18

I too am long-torsoed and find Speedo short - I have to go up two sizes in Speedo for it to fit without digging into my shoulders/giving me a wedgie, and then the rest of the fit isn't great. Best fit I've had in a sports swimsuit is one from TYR. I also have a more fashiony suit from Black Milk - their one-pieces come in long and short lengths and the long is perfect on me. (it is a Wonder Woman swimsuit. I am 45. Don't mock me.)

leedy · 11/01/2018 15:20

Should anyone else require one :) - the cape is detachable and it's actually a pretty decent suit for swimming as well as pretending to be Wonder Woman, also v flattering.
