Help - do flattering gym leggings exist?

Does anyone have any recommendations for gym leggings that flatter the - ahem - less than perfect figure? Am trying to up my exercise game and need more gym outfits, but since I last shopped for 'activewear' it seems that all the normal leggings have disappeared and the only stuff now available is either a) shiny or b) full of mesh bits and cutouts like something from a Cher tour circa 1990. Any flattering, forgiving and preferably matt black options out there? (I'm a size 12 and also a shortarse, so capri length ideally or else I'll be tucking the ends into my trainers!)

I am afraid of mesh because I am in my 40s and my gym - while quite basic - has the usual quota of intimidating 20-something girls with swingy hair and fake tan, who are very, very skinny and do the whole mesh/cutout thing (and pout at themselves in the mirrors a lot). I'm afraid by wearing anything remotely attention-grabbing I will look like I am delusional! Just want to wear black, blend in, lift some weights, do a class without tripping over my feet, go home! Also Brogueish I doubt mesh would be able to flatter my leg shape. I have legs like a Shetland Pony (though not quite as hairy and minus the hooves)

Oh bless you op.

Ignore the 20 something attention seekers.

Nothing wrong with a size 12 in mesh at 40 something. It can actually be more flattering.

My legs are like that, OP Smile. Good for weightlifting.....I got some plain black NIKE leggings in the Decathlon sale. I love them and don't want mesh, patterns, wide legs, anything.

I wear these Uniqlo airism leggings for workouts. They are pretty plain with a slight stripe down the outside leg. High waisted and stay up.

I have recently found Matalan sports leggings. High waist and stay up well

ASOS have started doing some cracking ones, I've ordered an entire new gym wardrobe from there.

Gap fit and sweaty Betty both v flattering and wash well. I wouldn’t recommend Nike. Got some lovely ones but after multiple washes they haven’t kept their shape.

Sweaty Betty and next both seem to fit me well (pear shape)

I haven't found better than Lululemon.

Orangettes · 04/04/2018 13:14

I wear Lululemon and Sweaty Betty. I prefer Lululemon because of the easy access side pockets - brilliant location for phone and their fabric is thicker - my SB anti gravity are not dyed through so go white when stretched - which is not flattering and cannot be tumble dried.

Mountain Warehouse do sports wear - I got a really nice top for yoga there. I like it so much that I wear it as a normal top too! The prices are pretty reasonable too.

Ignore the pouters. It's what you can do that counts. There's a woman who comes to my yoga class who must have a good ten years plus on me (and I'm a long way past 20), who won the plank competition that the sports centre ran one year. She's my inspiration! Let them waste time hair flicking while you crack on and you'll soon leave them standing Smile

I use my Mint Velvet black leggings and a long-ish t-shirt for the gym. The fabric is really thick and the waistband it fabulous, nice and wide so it doesn't move around, they're much more comfortable than any 'sports' leggings that I've tried. They come in three lengths.
