I really really want to look stylish and wear clothes thst suit me. I'm 5ft 1 and ten stone. Big tummy and bum and big upper arms but nice legs. I wear a lot of dresses and boots but look like a shapeless frump. Cannot see anything I like in any shops anywhere. I'm wondering if a decent pair of jeans plus boots plus joules type tops is the way forward butI haven't got a clue. Wish I had that inner understanding of what suits me. Turning 40 this year as well so should know what I'm doing by now!

Fully aware that I need to lose weight but having a jaw operation in 8 weeks when I'm likely to lose a stone so not too worried about weight loss at the moment.

I personally find that trying on loads of stuff in the shops that you'd usually not go for helps, as does taking photos on your phone so you get more of idea of how you look from an outsiders point of view!

That's a good idea. What shops are good? Currently all clothes in the shops just lookawful!

Well I turn 40 this year and my problem area is also my tummy but I do have big boobs and good legs, I shop in Oasis and generally go for fit and flare or skater styles and they give me an illusion of a waist, and show if my legs and boobs. I buy mid to high rise jeans as they hold in my tummy. I always wear skinny as my legs are nice and long, I aim to get jumpers or tshirts that finish on my hips or lower as short ones make me look square. Generally I wear low neck tops as they stop my boobs looking matronly. I wear knee high or over the knee boots with jeans and dresses.

I don't mean low low neck just ones that give a bit of space between my neck and boobs. I love wearing roll necks under dresses in the winter, or long line cardigans over tshirts or tops.

I find Pinterest helpful for outfit ideas - not for individual purchases, but for seeing how different colours and textures work together, how shapes combine to create silhouettes, how accessories can pull clothes together into an outfit, etc.

E.g. My favourite outfit at the moment is a grey fitted fine-knit jumper over a soft white shirt, with collar and cuffs showing, worn with a pair of cropped slouchy trousers and loafers. I'd seen slouchy trousers in the shops but it was seeing examples of how to wear them on Pinterest that helped me figure out how to style them in a way that suits me.

I think it helps me look stylish even though I don't naturally have an eye for shape/proportions etc.

I also love a jumper dress. My newish purchase is this one.

I also find browsing on online catalogs helpful as you can see all different ways of styling certain items.

Have you tried a stylist in a department store? Looking at pinterest is helpful as well.
