Looking for something dark, grown up, with gorgeous fur - not tacky looking. But not a million pounds either. Can you help me MN?

I have the Whistles one from a couple of years back
It is gorgeous in my opinion but my DCs call me Womble when I wear it,

DuckOffAutocorrectYouShiv · 30/12/2017 16:59

I recently bought the Didrikson Celine. Fab parka. Nice faux fur, not too ‘Michelin woman’ and really cosy. I went for the navy. £175 down from £250.

I’m looking for something similar for DH but in Khaki probably with more of a mod edge. Nothing from pretty green or on the mod sites. I like the Alpha industries M65 but that’s discontinued, same with Didrikson men’s mood parka. ‘Fashion’ ones are too thin and not weatherproof enough.

DuckOffAutocorrectYouShiv · 30/12/2017 17:01

I’m an 8-10 and went for a 36. It is a bit bigger but I prefer a slightly oversized look with things like that. A ‘skinny’ parka would look weird.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 30/12/2017 17:12

So a 40 would be about a 14?

Yes (size chart attached)

I’m a 12-14 and I got the 38. It fits perfectly.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 01/01/2018 12:18

Oooo can't decide weather to go for black or navy (living life on the edge!!)

OP posts:
SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 01/01/2018 12:19

Thanks for the size chart!

Agreed re: the fashion ones being too thin!

I bought the technical parka from Next this year in navy and I bloody love it. It's really heavy and warm and the fake fur is also navy.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 01/01/2018 12:28

Hmm, I've got a Didriksons parka and the fur is horribly stiff and fakey.

Dancetothebeat32 · 01/01/2018 12:46

I have this from la redoute it is lovely and warm and comes in green as well there is 20% off as well at the moment

Parker with nice fur???

George (asda) has a technical parka for £50ish? It's 100% waterproof and windproof and has very good reviews.

doctorboo · 01/01/2018 13:02

This one:

I've got it in my basket, just waiting for payday.

I saw that one too @doctorboo but the badge on the sleeve really put me off.

doctorboo · 01/01/2018 14:44

@SheGotOffThePlaneIf I'm going to see if I can take it off. Put my basic darning/unpicking skills to the test. If it looks like a no-go I might take it back. Blush Smile

babigailwabble · 01/01/2018 16:39

zara's fur is GORGEOUS. didn't like the coat sadly but the hood was heavenly.

TillyVonMilly · 01/01/2018 17:56

Fur hoods aren’t particularly good when rained on Sad bitter experience. Mine looked lovely but when it rained hard it looked like a soggy cat and it dripped down my face Hmm

Butterfly1975 · 01/01/2018 18:35

I've just bought this parka style coat with a fur collar www.mountainwarehouse.com/tarka-womens-long-padded-jacket-p16836.aspx/black/
It's like wearing a duvet - super warm and very well made. Not normally a fan of Mountain Warehouse but would recommend.

derenstar · 01/01/2018 18:55

I have the North Face Arctic Parka - www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01LJYTNYO/ref=asc_df_B01LJYTNYO1512648000000/?smid=A1B55B1RBLVAYD&linkCode=df0&creativeASIN=B01LJYTNYO&tag=mumsnetforum-21&creative=22374

It’s SUPER warm (almost too warm if the weather is relatively mild), waterproof and has worn well. I have had mine for 5 years and it’s still going strong so it’s a good investment and I would highly recommend it.

I’m on the hunt for another parka at the minute simply because I feel like I’ve been wearing the same coat for too long! Been eyeing up the Didriksons but my arctic parka will be a tough act to follow I think!

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 02/01/2018 09:54

Thanks for letting me know schitzel!

OP posts:
SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 02/01/2018 09:58

To this if you with the North Face :

What's the fur like?

Why dress size are you and what size parka did you buy?

Thanks Smile

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 02/01/2018 09:58

(To THOSE of you!)

OP posts:
derenstar · 02/01/2018 15:02

SmiledWithTheRisingSun the hood is very large and detachable. The fake fur bit is also detachable if you don’t like it but it’s nice and soft.

I’m 5ft 8 and fluctuate between dress size 12 & 14 and I have the coat in a medium. It feels true to size.
