I thought I'd found a brilliant hairdresser.....

I thought I'd found the one .... he seemed to get what I wanted and to get me and my style and he was really nice and didn't endlessly talk inanities to me.
Then, I went to him for about my fifth appointment with him for a cut and he cut my hair lopsided!! Its shorter above one ear than the other and the fringe is longer at one side than the other. What's happened - was he having a bad day? Has he got complacent with my hair? I found a photo of me after the previous cut and again my hair looked shorter on one side than the other but not so noticeable as this cut.
So what do I do? I could go back to him but I want to grow it out a bit first, and I'm thinking it's time to move on from him to someone else - perhaps he's giving me a hint that it's time to go elsewhere
BUT how do I start to look for someone else?? I chose this one because he'd won a National hairdresser award.

So how and where do I start looking? I've asked friends and get a variety of suggestions, I suppose it depends on whether they have similar hair and style to me as well

This happened to me. I thought I’d found my holy grail of hairdressers when he transformed my crazy long mop into a trendy manageable bob. Then I went back for my fifth appointment and he decided to do a mullet without telling me. All he was supposed to do was tidy up the bob. Cannot understand what was going through his mindConfused

MaggieMay23 · 27/12/2017 20:26

I don't know gets into them Zippy perhaps they get bored with you after a while. I won't go back as the city it's in I don't get to very often I used to go specially to get a decent haircut.

I know a fab hairdresser if you are in Leeds, but am loathe to recommend as he never loses clients so when they get new clients it gets harder to get an app!

MaggieMay23 · 27/12/2017 21:01

Thanks Joyce I'm in midlands

joyce I'm moving to Leeds Smile
I like an Aveda salon though

Si1ver · 27/12/2017 21:05

Where abouts in the Midlands? I've got a great rec in Shifnal and Ironbridge.

MaggieMay23 · 27/12/2017 21:20

I'm near stafford

I would phone back your hairdresser and explain.
Every good hairdresser will have a bad day - just like the rest of us.
A good hairdresser will fix it given the chance.
Otherwise you are going to be in an endless cycle finding the perfect hairdresser
PS I am not a hairdresser

user100987 · 27/12/2017 21:33

Hi Joyce I'd love your recommendation, promise not to share further 😊

EachandEveryone · 27/12/2017 21:56

My friend uses the same hairdresser from Vidal Sassoon and has been known to ring up two weeks later and complain. I wouldnt dare but they always rectify it.

MaggieMay23 · 27/12/2017 22:21

I agreed Luna I ought to go back and tell him but I'm wondering if it's his cutting technique as he seems to struggle with cutting round my ears - perhaps I've got funny ears. He's changed salons last time I went and maybe his attitude is different. Maybe I need a change and a different approach. I won't do anything yet - just think about it

Has anyone else had this? You think you've found the one one the holy grail of hairdressers and 5 /6 sessions in you get a bad cut and you realise that perhaps the one before that wasn't great either.

Perhaps your hairdresser has had a bad day? Phaps s/he's lost interesting you or your hair
What would you do?
Go back and get it put right? I've lost my trust and faith in him
Find someone else and join the search for a great hairdresser - where who how??

Ps if you know of a good cutter - I'm in the midlands eg Stafford/Derbyshire

Are you still undecided about what to do?
I think it was very good advice from a PP to let him know.
Depending on how he handles the situation should give you a glue as to whether or not you stay with him.

Slaymill · 28/12/2017 11:01

Hi Si1ver I'd like your recommendation for Ironbridge. Is the one Shifnal AG?

HRTpatch · 28/12/2017 11:02

Im currently sitting with colour on in hairdressers. My fringe is always a problem to cut.

MaggieMay23 · 28/12/2017 15:22

@Si1ver @Slaymill I think I know AG in Shifnal. Didn't he work for RB in tettenhall?

I thought I'd found 'the one' until I found out she'd been lying about putting Olaplex on my hair, charging me for it but not using it (I specifically went to that salon as I thought they used it but when I called in for some number 3, was told they don't stock it). Now my hair is breaking off and frazzled looking.

MaggieMay23 · 28/12/2017 17:56

@thegrinchreaper I wonder what they did put on your hair instead? I went to a salad once where they kept making a fuss about the "special treatment" they gave me each time that they charged me for, I've no idea what it was, and stopped going

Thirtyrock39 · 28/12/2017 18:01

I've recently had a wonky bob but according to all the youngsters at work this is the current look and it's 'asymmetrical ' so is there a chance you have actually been given a really 'on trend' style not actually a bad cut?

MaggieMay23 · 28/12/2017 18:05

@Thirtyrock39 -no cause he blamed me for the lopsided cut by not looking straight ahead when he was cutting it and then he tried to correct it but seemed to have made it worse

Oldraver · 28/12/2017 19:10

Crikey...they would be sacked off for this alone Shock

Candlelight234 · 28/12/2017 19:36

I would ask him to correct or pay again somewhere else.
I started a thread a few weeks ago as my trusted hairdresser had given me the most hideous mullet and I was upset & mortified. I went somewhere else and got it re-chopped. Not worth hating your hair when it can be fixed- good luck op Xmas Smile

thegrinchreaper · 28/12/2017 19:39

I think I was a L'Oréal professional mask, Maggie but not what I wanted or needed at all. She went along with my Olaplex conversation 'oh yes we can lighten without causing damage, where did you first hear about it?' Etc...my hair needs a good cut and dye now but it would be awkward going back...

MaggieMay23 · 28/12/2017 20:24

@Oldraver - he's the joint owner - perhaps ownership has gone to his head?

@Candlelight234 I'll look your thread up. Yes, life is too short go round with a bad hair cut
@thegrinchreaper hope you get your hair fixed - you must be feeling upset
