Would you expect this from Sterling silver? (Pic included)

Gave DD a Lily Blanche memory keeper necklace yesterday. www.lilyblanche.com/lily-blanche-memory-keeper-pendant-silver She wore today with a new Hush jumper. Within an hour the jumper looked like this. I will be onto Lily Blanche as soon as they reopen, but meanwhile wondering if this is something we should have foreseen? I've never had a necklace - cheap or expensive - do this to clothing before. It hasn't washed out, so the jumper is also toast now. DD is all upset, I'm hopping mad. The necklace looks fine - usual shiny new silver, no signs of tarnish. Although the worst bit is under the locket, the chain has also made a v shaped mark on the jumper, and given her a dirty neck at the back, but the chain mark hasn't been picked up so clearly on the picture. She wasn't wearing perfume or body lotion. What do you think?

Good lord, no! Disgraceful! I would be asking for money foe the jumper from them too.

No, never seen that before! That is not a cheap piece of jewellery (have had my eye on it myself) and I would not be happy with that at all. I would expect them to at the very least cover the cost of the jumper.

I wonder did the shop try to polish it when it was display and did not remove the polish properly?

I know, and I hate it when what's meant to be a special gift goes wrong. She's wanted that locket for ages, and was so pleased to get it yesterday, plus she's upset about the jumper, which was a gift from her grandma. She's at university, so these things were both way out of her budget and her expectation. Hopefully Lily Blanche will be amenable to sorting it out - the locket is going to have to go back as well, as neither of us would be willing to risk another item of clothing to it.

That's what I'm guessing, purple, although there isn't any visible signs of polish on it, and in fact it came with care instructions that said NOT to use silver polish on it, as it could damage it - it came with a cloth, and it said that was the only thing that should be used.
