but what ^is^ size 0?

following on from that telly program tonight and other things in 'chat'

i don't really know what is a size 0. i find some shops have 'big' size 8's, for example.

and in less than 10 years, bigger fits have smaller size numbers.

is it just my imagination?

size 0 is a uk size 4, a size 00 is a uk size 2.

yes, they said a size 4 but what sort of waist/hip/boob size would make up a size 4?

the skinniest girl got to 8st 4.
and the bmi of 19 was borderline unhealthy.

i didn't see the start. any figures of what this size 0/4 actually looks like?

lousie rednapp did it for tv programme and she went to size 0 from a size 8

I had a BMI of about 17 last year

I was not anorexic, nor was I a size zero

be careful about sweeping statements about people's size / weight

this is what i mean Franny. My cousin once said she wanted to be as thin as me. but she has a 'bigger' bone structure than me eventhough we are the same height. i remember feeling sad as if she was as thin as me she would look gaunt and skeletal. i said so but probably in not not nicest way as we both couldn't be older than 20 at the time.

frannyandzoe i was not making statements about anyone weith etc however the doctor who oversaw louise stated that 17 is very unhealthy (and that it was anorexic)

I think there is so much scope for variation on this as with anything else to do with health

and I don't understand a particular BMI being classified as anorexic? Anorexia is a mental and physical illness, not a particular BMI

BMI basically disappears as you starve or purge away all the fat in your body, the only thing left is the muscle and organs, you then get muscle wastage and organ failure.

One of the physical criteria for a diagnosis of anorexia is a bmi less than 17, the other is amennorhoea. You must also have a morbid fear of obesity and be trying to loose weight.

A bmi of 17 does not in isolation define anyone as being anorexic.

i think it may have had a lot to do with the fact louise was a 19 which is healthy for her weight etc and then 1month later was 2 dress sizes smaller and her bmi was showing 16/17 i like i said be4 she was really ill and it look her 2 month to but her weight back on as she had to do it very slowly as if she had put it on the way she lost it , it would have been pure fat that she would have never lost (doctor again) she had to put it on slowly so she could gain the muscle that she had lost also.

i used to have a 32 23 34 figure and weighed 9stone and was size 8/10 depending on where i shopped.

Basically you are as you are, dont try and be something you are not, dont make yourself ill along the journey its not worth it. Dont paddle your toes because you will be too tempted to dive in. Being so skinny when you are not built to be that way will put so much strain on your health, organs, family and mind. ITS NOT WORTH IT!!

i think the poster ( i do recall her name) said she was that picture you linked. I think she looks good though

and when I were a lass that was a UK size 8/10

and a size 12 was 34/26/36

One of my aunts has always been skinny - she is only 11 years older than me and we used to go shopping together when I was 16/17. She was a size 8 and hated it. Found it really hard to find clothes and everything hung off her. And now I see size 6 and 4 in shops. It is total madness.

i agree with not making sweeping statements. i am very slim hipped and need a 4/6 trouser. However on my top half i am a size 10. I am not skinny by any stretch of the imagination!

Iota the sizes have definitely changed a lot haven't they? I started my teenage years as a size 8, then I had to buy a size 6. Then size 6 shifted and was too big for me. I couldn't buy any clothes that fitted me on the high street. I had not got any smaller in those years!

Similarly my shoe size has changed. I used to be a 4, then 3 1/2, now 3. My feet have definitely not shrunk

I don't think there is anything freakish about the vital statistics for a size 0, but it would be unusual and probably unhealthy if you were much taller than average height with it. I am only 5'2" so it is in proportion.
