I am going to a bbq tomorrow for one of my close friends dd's first birthday Lots of old friends going .I was going to wear black high waisted straight legged trousers white gap shirt with tie at the side (peasanty thing)and silver heeled strappy shoes.Dp says he is wearing shorts and t shirt so will I look daft?

Hmmm I think it will depend on what everyone else is wearing really. Sounds like either you will be over dressed or dp will be underdressed.

If it were me going, I would ring the hostess and ask her what she is wearing.

MerryMarigold · 21/04/2007 17:44

Could you wear some cut off trousers or something slightly less smart on the bottom half (jeans!). Bbq implies outdoors and relaxed to me - but I am not one to dress up Whatever you feel comfortable in...

The hostess is one of my best friends and will be dressed up to the nines regardless of everyone else!Don't have any cut off trousers Maybe will force dp to change and not me!

oh go for it - I often over dress for things but just see it that everyone else has underdressed.

If you are the most dressed up if you would feel uncomfortable then dress down if you would feel like you just look fucking great them go for it.

MerryMarigold · 21/04/2007 17:47

usually guys tend to dress up less. maybe if he wears a shirt with the shorts...

DimpledThighs · 21/04/2007 17:48

don't try and change what dh is wearing - no one will really care.

noddyholder · 21/04/2007 17:48

I do like the outfit and want to wear it.I think I would rather look daft than wear jeans tomorrow.

Dress? I think dresses can easily be dressed up or down with accessories. Go with a load of jewellery on and if it is casual, take most of it off (the jewellery).

He has a gap stripy t shirt which he loves and an old pair of army shorts and converse boots A shirt would make him faint as he wears them to work all week and hates them!

Might stick a pair of ballet pumps in my bag and change if my come dancing sandals are too much

Was gonna suggest a change in the shoes Noddy. Black trews and white shirt sound lovely. Flat shoes might be better in case they decide to play rounders!

noddyholder · 21/04/2007 17:55

I love the shoes but agree they may be too glitzy I still haven't worn them out though but regularly walk round the house in them much to dp's amusement.

If the hostess will be dressed up then it will be good to follow her lead - enjoy!

Just one thing

Think of your heels on the grass! They'll sink in all night and piss you off.

noddyholder · 21/04/2007 18:03

I am letting the silver shoes go and wearing flats
