What to wear to job interview that's NOT a suit

Got a job interview for a teaching post next week. Don't want to wear a suit because it'll make me look Badger-esque. I want to look smart but fashionable.

Would a tulip-shaped black top with green cardi, black bootleg trews and green sling-backs fit the bill do you think? Cardi is here ; top is at bottom far right

Or are suits the safest option?

Not a senior job, no, but flash school, very go-getting. But I don't want to get into all that coporate Bertie Big Bollocks shite by wearing a suit, carrying a briefcase etc., because that's not me and I want to feel comfortable and confident. I wore the outfit below for the first time last week and got lots of compliments and 'who d'you think you are?'-type piss taken out of me at work and I felt all glam and everything.

If you've had compliments in outfit then you will feel confident and a million dollars at interview - you should wear it.

Colour is always good - if they forget you are called moomin they can always refer to the lady in the green top.

as opposed to the Badger in the grey suit!

good point. will go for it!

Good luck. I think men have to wear suits for interviews but women just have to look well groomed. As I'm sure you will in that lovely cardigan.

Dh had an interview for some agency work today though and was going to wear a beige suit he wore to a wedding in france 4 years (and 3 inches round the tummy) ago. I gently advised him not to or he'd look like the Man from DelMonte. He went in black jeans and a smart shirt in the end (and was taken on!)

Wonderful. I take it back- suits on either gender not compulsory!
