I don't. I can't because it feels really unsafe, i'm scared my feet will slip out of them.

Olive I'm lovimg driving. It took a while though. Now I bez around town and don't even think about it.

Have to drive to my parents on my own with ds in 2 weeks though, bit nervous about that as it involves motorway driving.

Get out their and do it girl. You'll be right.

DimpledThighs · 19/04/2007 14:46

no drive barefoot

Kelly1978 · 19/04/2007 14:46

it's not illegal as such, but it could come under the defintion of driving without proper control, so you could get in trouble for it. So generally it's not a good idea.

I drive in birkies and flip flops but can't do bare foot. Neighbour up the road cheerfully told me, whilst looking at my footwear, that her cousin is now paralysed because he flip flop got caught under the pedals and she crashed her car into a wall. There's always someone out to ruin my day

DrNortherner · 19/04/2007 14:50

'bez round town' ?!

God I sound like a real Kev don't I? I'm not honest.....

nearlythere · 19/04/2007 14:51

i have just evaluated the dangers of driving in my flip flops and have decided that as mine are incredibly flexible they would not be able to jam any pedals and therefore are safe.

if they were the rigid ones then i would be worried but any pressure on them and these would just fold in half!

DrNortherner · 19/04/2007 14:59

lol at nearlythree acrrying out a rsik assessment

PinkChick · 19/04/2007 15:09

when i first started driving after passing test just over a year ago i could only reach pedals and drive our 'then' car in one pair of boots, so in summer, i went out on flip flops and had to faff around putting big black boots with heel on when i got into it!(is was a peugeot 206sw, very high pedals)..now we treat ourselves to a new focus zetec and as its sporty pedals are lower and i realised halfway through drive to shops other day i had my flip flop(not minging ones, nice ones with white leather across)on..drove crap from then on, but was fine when i hadnt known!

nearlythere · 19/04/2007 15:12

i'm nearlythere lol
sorry just fed up with people mistaking me for nearlythree- i had a run in on a thread with her once and it left me a little bitter!!!

actually, you've just reminded me- i've had the baby so i'm no longer nearlythere- ooh time for a name change!

LaCerbiatta · 19/04/2007 15:27

It's ilegal where I come from (portugal) and to me it feels very unsafe.

Oh and it's ilegal to drive barefoot as well

ChippyMinton · 19/04/2007 16:08

From the highway code:

You should ensure that:

...clothing and footwear do not prevent you using the controls in the correct manner

drove in my new clarks bronze ballet pump style shoes today. ah, lovely!!!!! think birkies are not going to work, after trying it ysterday as I am terrified i'll get it stuck, and as I am not a very confident driver as it stands, that would be a Bad Idea cos I would panic and make it worse.

so what do you do? drive in something "sensible" and change when you get there?????

god i hate driving. especially parking.

MrsBadger · 19/04/2007 16:20

keep ballet pumps in glovebox

I have a pair of winter boots I can't drive in as heels too high

alittlebitshy · 19/04/2007 16:22

I put a pair of old trainers and socks in the boot yesterday for such emergencies..... wonder if i'll ever need 'em! Would be a shame not to wear all my nice birkies so i suppose i'll have to remember to change into driving shoes (lol) and take nicer ones with.

Idreamofdaleks · 19/04/2007 17:35

I wear flip flops for 5 months of the year and almost always drive in them in summer. Why is it a problem, should I stop doing htis?
