Would you spend £40 on a purse?

I have been looking for a new purse for a while, I found a perfect one today in Ted Baker its a lovely teal colour and has all the bits I want (i need a large coin purse bit and most don't have this). I really want a bluey/greeny coloured purse and it really is a lovely purse but it is also £40!! The other ones I was looking at in Oasis are £20.

Its this one but in teal -
purse

My current one is a leather one from River Island that I have had for 4 years and it is battered so I wonder if I would get my moneys worth, do you think it would last longer if it costs more?

Hmmm.

I like this one. Is it within budget?

bettys · 18/04/2007 23:02

Oh buy it (if it makes you feel better my purse was even more expensive)

I have a Balanciaga purse that was an anniversary present and I love it. It makes me smile every time I use it. So go for it if you want it and can afford it - it is one of the few things you use every day and is worth getting exactly the one you want.

How about Orla Kiely?

Clary · 18/04/2007 23:10

Well I probably wouldn't.

But it's like that thing in Mrs Miniver, when she has to go back and buy an expensive pocketbook (I think it's a diary) because it's sthg you use every day so you do need to love it.

That matters less with a one-off item TBH. A ballgown, a fancy pair of shoes you wear once a month, etc, if you don't reall ylike them then that's OK.

But your diary, your coat, your handbag, your jeans, your purse these you need to love.

So buy it.

Clary you make a v.good point! Hmm.

It's true as well. I always spend ages choosing my diary each December because I know if it's not what I want it will annoy me every day. So if I find what I want I don't really mind what it costs (up to a point of course)

Clary · 18/04/2007 23:18

Ooooh is it leather anniversary? (3 yrs IIRC)

Smurfgirl · 18/04/2007 23:21

2 yrs but we are not married yet so I don't think its any anything other than a 'go out for a meal' anniversary!!

Oh no I think it's deffo an anniversary gift.

(Better than I got (or gave, frankly )after 9 years anyway)

fin54 · 19/04/2007 13:54

Yes I have bought one at the same price ( Radley ) and I love it and would get an other one if I needed it.

wurlywurly · 19/04/2007 13:58

if i spent £40 on a purse i would have nothing left to put in it.

twinsetandpearls · 20/04/2007 00:50

I always ahve a nice purse with bugger all in it!

chocolatechipmonkey · 20/04/2007 01:49

One of my colleagues was seriously thinking of spending 1600 Euro on a handbag the other day I doubt if I would spend that on my entire wardrobe for a year!
