I need a T & S job quite frankly.

Anyone up for it?

Oh God Daph, Yes I do wear them

I have some nice causal jackets from H&M - dead cheap and nice materials (have a cord one and a linen one). Shopping there can be a bit stressful though.

Re the hair: also have brwonb straight hair, but mine's in a short bob as have square face. Perhaps you could try something slightly different without losing the length (so could tie it back if a disaster)?

Oooh have always wanted a linen jacket. Will def. look in H&M next time in Bromley. And with the hair, swizz, I've decided to go 2 inches shorter, bit more layered, and brighten up the colour a bit. Little touch of chestnut I think.

Now, Jackie, if you are there. Today I went clothes shopping. I took 4 skirts into the changing room (thinking never in a million years) - they all fit, and 2 of them looked quite nice. So I bought them! One's a white and black leaf print, one is purple broderie anglaise but quite thick and layered. They are both just below knee length and a-line but, honestly, I was gob smacked, they look fine.

Then I found a long ribbed cardigan with big buttons and 3/4 length sleeves. Tried it on and got all distressed because it was so much too small. Not until I took it off the hanger did I realise it was a 12 on a 14 hanger. But luckily they did have a 14 so I bought that too!

Thank you for your advice. I honestly never would have thought of skirts without you .

Yay DaphneHarvey - that's a great result. Well done for just trying things on, and I'm so, so glad you found stuff you like. Excellent (am grinning like a loon here).

DaphneHarvey, what shops did you go to? I'm the same shape as you, just a bit taller & a bit wider round the bottom. I find M&S & Monsoon are quite good, haven't plucked up the courage to try Principles as don't feel smart enough compared to the people working there!

I would love to find a casual jacket/cardi that suited me, maybe tailored & a bit long as I find that pockets and belts tend to add bulk.

not clothes but
good hair cut and colour
manicure and eyebrow shape.
A good bronzing powder (not for orange but for radiance)
If budget allows a trip to Benefits make up counter will show you lots of little products to make you look fab.

To improve complexion (unless sensitive or dry) totally recommend L'oreal micro dermabrasion kit from Boots. Dead easy great results.

DaphneHarvey - M&S have some linen jackets atm - any of those take your fancy?
