What do you wear with chocolate brown linen trousers?

I have a pair of wide-ish legged chocolate brown linen trousers - fairly bog standard really. What shall I wear with them? Should I always stick to flat shoes? Or can I wear a heel or wedge?

And what style of top? Would a tunic top not be right because they are wide legged? Also colours. A lot of the patterned tops that I like are black based which I don't think looks right.

I thought these would be a wardrobe staple this summer but find I have nothing to wear with them.

Please help!

I wear v fitted topswith mine, usually black or cream. Need the slim top-half to balance volume at the bottom. I have a chunky ethnic necklace which is v long - often wear this too.
Shoes - I wear flats, mostly, but wedges would be great, so long as the trousers are long enough!

bozza · 17/04/2007 14:59

Will have to try the trousers on again - can't remember what the length is like. Do you generally wear plain or patterned tops?

If you are tallish you can get away with tunics and wide leg trousers, unfortunately I am not.
Maybe a cotton wrap top ?
Flats or wedges or sandals are fine imo.
Personally I like brown and black together.

Gobbledigook · 17/04/2007 15:01

Agree, wedges would be fine if trews are long enough. I usually wear flats and usually fitted tops. I think you can wear a tunic too though - as long as it was fitted at some point like under the bust. Otherwise it would just look too baggy.

i am watching with interest as i have a long choc brown linen skirt which i have hauled out from last year. it doesn't seem to go with anything else in my wardrobe at all.
looks 80's with red
looks mumsy with cream
????

Gingerbear · 17/04/2007 15:01

turquoise or lime green always looks good with brown.

Tunic / semi fitted would look good.
straw heeled Wedges would be good.

hitchcock · 17/04/2007 15:07

i agree with whats said be4

cremolafoam · 17/04/2007 15:09

yes i like turquoise or jade green with brown. can't do orange or autumn colours as i am too pink(skin)

feel a shopping spree coming on.

KnayedFrot · 17/04/2007 15:15

I love duck egg blue with chocolate brown, or even a very pale shell pink...blue would probably be best if your complexion is english rose-ish

spykid · 17/04/2007 16:01

powder blue
olivee green
red
white
khaki
lemon

bozza · 17/04/2007 16:23

I am fair and not very tall if that helps. But thanks for all the advice, lots of food for thought. I seem to have winter clothes and vesty tops, and not much in between. I'm not sure how that has happened.

I have the trousers of which you speak

I wear fitted tops in lighter browns, tans, creams, greens, turquoise, teasl and oranges
also fitted shirts in white or cream,
less fitted shirts in creams, tans and a subtle cream-on-cream hawaiian print with a white vest under,
floaty wafty tunics in white or cream, but only ones that flash cleavage and/or delicate collarbones

and mostly wedges as they're bloody long but would wear flats if they didn't drag in puddles

contentiouscat · 17/04/2007 16:55

I like turquoise with brown.

So now you have convinced me everything goes with these trousers, where can I get some

MrsBadger · 17/04/2007 17:08

hah, mine are maternity ones!

collision · 17/04/2007 17:11

Next have some.

Everything goes with brown I think...a bit like black.

MrsBadger · 17/04/2007 17:12

except navy

collision · 17/04/2007 17:14

ooh yes...no navy with brown or black.

Navy is a colour like brown or black IYSWIM.

bozza · 17/04/2007 21:54

Mine are just the cheapy £18 ones from Next. I have bought a collarless blouse with back tie from New Look for a fiver which I am going to try with them - it is brown with a sort of floral pattern in cream, teal and pink. Will need a camisole/vest though because is very see through.

Mine don't match any of my other brown clothes but I'm wearing green to turquoise tops (scoop necked fairly fitted) with them. On my feet it's suede flat flip flops or brown weathered looking all stars.

Clary · 17/04/2007 23:16

I have booted black out of my wardrobe so now have a lot of brown and find it goes with:
brown
cream/khaki/taupey shades
white
pink
purple
combinations of the above.

You see MrsB sort of agrees with me again, I'm quite excited about that!

Not black tho and prob not blue or dark green (bright would be OK) but I don't have much of those.

I would wear slingbacks with a heel or wedges, yes, if I found any I liked.

Tops - fitted or slim anyway, maybe a wrap?

chocolateface · 17/04/2007 23:51

Today I wore brown linen trousers with silver ballet shes and a white T-shirt.I honestly can't remember what shirt/ jumper I wore. Stick to flats.
