Monsoon have nice stuff. So do Vertbaudet, particularly the Mila Blue range. Boden have some nice things if you choose carefully, as do White Company and Petit Bateau. None of these are cheap options, though.

MrsBadger · 14/04/2007 17:57

if what you really want are cotton basics in bright colours and can cope with non-French, this is very cheap indeed.

La Redoute is, unsurprisingly, frencher.

I like the Boden stuff, just had a look. Especially the stripey towelling shorts. DIdn't like Vertbaudet or Monsoon. White company barely has anything in day wear. COuldn't find Petit Bateau.

Thanks!

I am annoyed at HM at the moment. Bought a lovely pirate top in there and it had a red strip in the neck INSIDE for no apparant reason. Bled through on first wash. Some of their stuff is nice, but haven't found great shorts there yet.

Petit Bateau online collections to view here but no online shopping in the UK.

La Redoute?

IlanaK · 14/04/2007 18:04

I already checked La Redoute - didn't like it. Boys stuff in most places at the moment seems to be very denim rough and skatey.

I want cute bold colours, maybe nautical type stripes. I love the clothes in Jo Jo but my oldest is now a size 6 so can't fit them.

None of the plain stuff on my first link any good?
there's a scandinavian site that's big on stripes... will see if I can find a link

IlanaK · 14/04/2007 18:08

Mrs Badger, only one pair of kids shorts came up oin that site unless I was looking at the wrong bit. But I am less keen on the plain ones.

Scandinavian sounds great!

American Apparel?

aha, Polarn & Pyret are the stripey Scandinavians -they have a RL shop in Brent Cross I think.
And in the same vein, Jako-o is stripey and German.

Gap? Zara?

geekgrrl · 14/04/2007 18:13

gymboree.com are fab and the best-made children's clothes I've ever found.

geekgrrl · 14/04/2007 18:16

oooh, I like the look of Polarn y Pyret - shame they don't seem to do online ordering, the stuff looks lovely

FrannyandZooey · 14/04/2007 18:18

I like Vertbaudet. Nice choice of colours.

FrannyandZooey · 14/04/2007 18:19

sorry just seen you don't like them

for some reason I am MNing with the sun glaring into my eyes and my comprehension skills are even worse than usual

cori · 14/04/2007 18:21

Believe it or not primark have some nice boys gear at the moment.

IlanaK · 14/04/2007 18:32

Oooo- i Love the look of the scandinavian stuff, but not sure I want to go to Brent Cross. Jack-o looks nice too and delivers.

I love Gymboree. IN the days that they had shops here, it is all I dressed my boys in. BUt I don't want to order from the US as I always seem to get stung for customs charges.

I have spent ages looking through the Jacko site. Its wonderful!! I want all of it!

Next directory if you sort through has some nice stripey stuff for boys.

Bink · 14/04/2007 20:56

M&S are doing really nice t-shirts - so good I did a post about them here

I didn't look at much else there but had impression of it all being much much less logoed & tagged than usual.

Mothercare is always good for summer basics, I find - supposed to go up to 8 but it depends on size of child - my just-8-year-old grew out of their stuff at 6 (he's now an H&M 10+, which is saying a lot as H&M is Generous, especially round the waist).

Aefondkiss · 14/04/2007 21:00

debenhams has 2 pack of shorts one striped one plain and matching two pack of tops, I saw them today they looked nice, 20% off some of their stuff too

mysonsmummy · 14/04/2007 21:21

i buy lots of ds 5 clothes in H&M - i love the bright colours on him.

got some great bargain in the vertbaudet sale - £46 geox for £11.

dont usually like the M&S boys range so am interested in having a look at the OP M&S tops - could you do a link if you have time please. thanks

IlanaK · 14/04/2007 21:33

Thanks everyone for the tips. I just did an order with Jack0 - love their stuff!

Not a fan of Next or M+S for boys aged 4+. Their toddler stuff is cute though.

here you are mysonsmummy. ds spent today in the turquoise one.

Marina · 14/04/2007 22:23

Thanks for that link, bink!
Ilana, how's this for a cautionary Gymboree tale. I ordered a decent amount of stuff (I really like their clothes, especially the old-fashioned on-the-knee shorts) and had it delivered to work. Cost of clothes, fine, invoiced to my personal credit card as specified in order. Cost of shipping and customs - invoiced direct to work's DHL account! I was horrified when Finance rang me about it...
I used to like the Edeis range in the La Redoute catalogue but over the years it has become smaller and less French looking.
In the sales, Marimekko do some lovely unisex cotton stripe teeshirts too.

Pannacotta · 14/04/2007 22:30

Agree with others that M&S and H&M are doing good boys things at the mo, lots of bright colours and stripes and not too much in the way of skate wear type things (or khaki which is also bit grim)...
