Are these nice or horrible?

I can't decide? Looking for black (they need to be black) ankle boots, and I came across these and can't decide whether they're cool or whether they'll make me look ridiculous: www.marksandspencer.com/block-heel-side-zip-lace-up-ankle-boots/p/p60120577

Thoughts?! Alternative suggestions? I probably don't want to spend more than £60, but would go up to £80 for something I really loved.

I nearly bought these the other day, I love them! The only reason I didn't is because they're not leather/suede and even though I'm nearly 40, I still hear my mum saying "you must buy leather boots, Monkey, or they wont last"! I'm tempted to buy them now to prove her wrong!

Update - these arrived this morning! On the plus side: they are actually much nicer in person than in the photo, I think - velvety not fake suede, and the laces don't stand out as obviously as in the photo. On the down side: I'm going to have to return them because they won't zip up all the way (they go up to lower calf). This is a bit disappointing because the size 14 dress I bought at the same time is absolutely swimming on me so I would guess I'm a size 12 in their sizes (which I know run big - I'd say I'm a size 14 on bottom normally) and I bought a size 8 (I'm 5'10) so I'm surprised that my calves are considered excessively large proportionately!

What a shame they don't fit OP I think they're lovely boots. That style would be amazing in jewel colours too esp if velvety. I'd like some cobalt blue or deep green or burgundy ones.

Duo do lovely lace-up boots, quite pricey but all my pairs have lasted so worth it.

can you not relace them...do the zip first and then tie the laces

mind you that I love that style of boot, but I have an irrational hatred of lace up boots with a side zip. Just do up the bloody laces! :o

I am an absolute idiot. Of course I can relace them. Because of the side zip I thought the laces were completely decorative. Thank you, statue - they now fit and I'm keeping them!
