Posh dress to hide my bump?

I’m 8weeks pregnant with DC3 (Shock and need a posh dress to wear to a Christening, a hen do, and a wedding over the next month.

It’s really important that I don’t have an obvious bump at these events if at all possible. The friend who is getting married (and she will also be at the hen do) has had 5 failed IVF attempts over the last year. She has spoken to me about how heartbroken she is and has actively avoided our friend’s newborn (totally understandable).

So what can I wear? I had thought I’d spend some money on a proper maternity dress, but looking today they all seem to be ‘embrace the bump’ rather than ‘hide the bump’.

Any advice? Or specific outfit links? (Please!) I’m about 5ft 5, size 12.

Thank you!

Hush Ivy dress?

mydrawstring · 20/10/2017 21:23

Sorry I should add - I’m the same height as you and a size 12; I wear an XS but could size up to an S. it is very roomy without being sack-like. I carry all my weight on my tummy and this dress hides it wonderfully.

Thank you so much the reply! I like the look of the dress, but would never have the confidence to wear it. I need to cover up my fat knees! (Sorry, not making this easy)

Try a COS dress perhaps. They skim over waists. Good fabrics and can be styled up with necklace, shoes, bags...

It’s good to be so considerate. Lindy bop? If you don’t petticoat then up they don’t look overly vintage www.lindybop.co.uk/ophelia-bad-apple-black.html

Whistles Lola dress? I find it hides a multitude and more dressy than he Hush Ivy,which I also love.

What about something like this m.zara.com/uk/en/devoré-velvet-midi-dress-p02731255.html?v1=4795118&v2=981009

Got volume at the top and sleeves to distract from the tummy area, then you can tie it looser at the waist so it skims over any bump? Long enough to cover knees Wink (but I'm sure they aren't 'fat') you could wear it with heels for the wedding and boots for the hen do and flats for the christening, or any combination of the above!

I second the Whistles Lola, very versatile too as can dress up with heels & jewellery or I wore mine with boots & tights for work too.

Won't she guess at the hen do if you're not drinking?

WinnerWinnerChickenDinner0 · 21/10/2017 18:22

By the way, congrats on the bump and good on you being so considerate of your friend

Thank you so much to everyone who gave ideas. I picked up my hush dress from John Lewis earlier and I’m delighted with it! Can be dressed up and down and it’s so comfy too. Big thanks! Smile
