Wedding anniversary party at posh restaurant - what do people wear?

Will standard workwear (nice dress, potentially plus jacket) hack it? If not, I have nothing in my wardrobe that isn't jeans and t-shirts, so the 'smart trousers and a nice top' thing isn't going to work.

Can anyone suggest either the sort of 'nice top' that's appropriate or the type of dress I should be looking for? I'm assuming cocktail (ie short), but beyond that I'm a bit stumped.

I'm a norky size 10, also quite short, so needs to be fitted rather than flowing.

Um, anyone bored and up for helping me? I've been browsing Boden, Asos and Phase 8 and am currently finding very little that looks non-mumsy, not too young and which has bra coverage and won't be below the knee on me (or at least be easy to get taken up, I look awful in just below the knee dresses).

Best hope so far is this which is a long way from my usual style but at least is neither lacy nor floral.

Can you glam up one of your work dresses with jewellery - necklace, bracelet etc. and an evening bag? If it’s a single colour work dress I think it would be fine.

Smart trousers and a nice top will be fine. If you are in a restaurant no-one is going to see what you are wearing on your bottom half anyway.

Where You're rather assuming I own jewellery... It's not my thing. Same with evening bags, I've got a little black evening bag that I bought in Claire's Accessories twenty years ago which is clearly cheap and old, but which I've used for weddings for years. I've got a gold chain, gold stud earrings and some pink coral necklaces left over from being a little girl... I do have a dark green fit and flare work dress which I think is the nearest thing to an evening dress, so maybe I should just accessorise that somehow. It's long-sleeved and high-necked, though.

Lonerica I dont' have a nice top, but would be happy to buy one. Just need to work out what that looks like / means. I do have black work trousers I could wear.

All Dinner - Saturday night so I think fairly formal.

Any thoughts on the dress I linked to?

What's your budget? What colours do you like to wear? What colour heels are you likely to wear?

Also, what kind of neckline do you prefer?

Black patent block mid heels (don't have any others). Budget up to £150 but would rather spend under £100. I like navy, dark green, burgundy - nothing with yellow tones. Must be able to wear scaffolding a bra.

Love the phase 8 dress you linked. Very tempted by it myself.

Phase eight dress is fab, if it’s not too low cut for you (I am busty myself). If so a balconette bra which lifts and separates is a good bet (as opposed to a plunge or push up).

That dress is fabulous and you would get lots of wear out of it afterwards, I'm sure. Or you could sell it on eBay to recoup some costs if you need
