What do you wear to a black tie event if you have chubby arms, can't stand (let alone walk) in heels and are covered in tattoos?

Do you just not go?

Or can you wear a long sleeved, long dress with crocs flat shoes underneath.

And it will be fucking freezing too.

Halp?

Yes you can. I have one of those problems (nowadays but did for a while) and I wore dresses as described. Wear what makes you feel happy and confident and you will be fine.

LostInShoebiz · 04/10/2017 19:41

Not Crocs though: I cannot endorse those.

Kenworthington · 04/10/2017 19:44

I am all those things. I just have my arms out , with my tattoos looking totally fucking awesome. I normally wear some heels but take them off immediately I get indoors or just wear flats.

Ttbb's dress is perfect

The brilliant thing about black tie is that if you wear floor length no-one can really see if you have got heels on or not. Flats or kitten heels with pointy toes do a great job of appearing to be heels when they poke out from under the skirt.

CountFosco · 04/10/2017 20:11

Pointy flats. Look on www.enbrogue.com blog for some lovely flats. Don't worry about your arms and tattoos.

Madcatter · 04/10/2017 20:13

Wear a nice pair of (maybe pointy) flats - don't feel like the dress needs to be long. Wear whatever you feel comfortable with arms wise and as for the tattoos, show them off! Assuming you're happy with them, they're part of you and if anyone gets snooty that's their problem!

CaptainBrickbeard · 04/10/2017 20:18

I can't wear heels due to nerve damage in my feet; I certainly wouldn't let it stop me from going anywhere I wanted! I can't even wear particularly pretty flats, I'm in plain orthopaedic shoes most of the time and because I have no choice, I just forget about it.

There are lots of pretty shrugs to cover arms and lots of them are very fancy. I felt self conscious about my arms for for twenty years and covered them up on every occasion in all weather. I wish I hadn't now and am happy to bare them, but there are plenty of options. A website called wingz (I think) does sleeves that you can use to convert pretty much any dress - plain, lacy, sparkly etc. There are always fancy boleros in shops - faux fur or whatever you want. I have a nice Lindy Bop sheer shrug and another lace one which are both lovely - the lace one is very glamorous.

Pavonia · 04/10/2017 20:22

Definitely go! Wear something that you like and feel confident in. I don't see why women should feel obliged to wear crippling heels.

If you end going for a relatively plain dress and shoes maybe try lovely jewellery or an interesting bag.

I wouldn't worry about the tattoos, they aren't my thing but I don't dislike them on other people.

Workingonthemoon · 04/10/2017 20:23

If you're wearing glats make sure the dress is the right length. :)

thenightsky · 04/10/2017 20:26

I always wear flats with long dresses. Nobody checks out your shoes when you're wearing a lovely long floaty thing.

CaptainBrickbeard · 04/10/2017 20:28

You could look on Regal Gold Boutique, they do long sleeved full length formal dresses, which look warm!

AdalindSchade · 04/10/2017 20:31

That dress is lovely but £420!

I bet one of those eBay sellers from China would have something similar for a lot less
