Just that really.
My daughter is going to the Theatre on Friday night with two buddies. She wants to dress smartly.

What would you recommend?
TIA

I think probably slimblack jeans, a soft jacket (blazer possibly) and a nice top.
People don't really glam up for the theatre these days but she might like to go a bit up from a hoody.
Another option would be a dress and jacket or cardi.

Full ballgown.

You can dress as smartly or as casually as you like for the theatre. There are no rules. So whatever she normally wears when she's dressing up.

I like NC4now’s suggestions : I am twice your DD’s age & wore something similar to the theatre last week

This is what I normally go for;
I think probably slimblack jeans, a soft jacket (blazer possibly) and a nice top.
Sometimes I go for heels too.

Ok. Thanks. That’s what I would wear myself but I’m clueless on teen fashion! Lol.

Something thats comfortable to sit in and which won't be problematic if she has to squeeze past people who are already seated.

DS, who is very fond of the theatre, normally wears his sleekest jeans, a leather jacket with a big scarf, and a favourite shirt. Leather boots.

NC4now · 02/10/2017 12:55

I'd wear heels too but flats are fine if that's what she usually wears. It depends how she is in heels, and how she's getting home.

blueskyinmarch · 02/10/2017 12:56

I find it is usually boiling in theatres so layering is the way to go. Nice jeans and a vest top with a soft jacket on top would work. Really just whatever she usually wears to go out smartish. If sh likes to wear skirts or dresses then go for it. Anything goes really.

What she'd wear if meeting friends, if she wants to do smart. Bit dressier than normal but the only place I've seen proper dressy is ROH. I got to the theatre a lot, I don't dress for it usually unless it's a press/ gala night. Comfort wise heels are annoying, as are skirts.
