I've got tickets to watch Strictly being filmed!!!

And I need a dress - the tickets say no jeans must be glamorous!
I'm a massive Strictly fan and so excited- but what to wear?? It has to be comfy to wear all day and on the train to get there and back .
I conveniently ordered these shoes so something to go with them- I'm 5'9 a curvy 18 I hate my legs so nothing too short. I have pale skin and blonde hair (although I'll probably dye it pale pink that day). I used to wear lots of black but try to avoid it as I get older (late 40s). And nothing sleeveless my bingo wings are huge:(
I was thinking of this- https://www.bravissimo.com/products/leila-34-sleeve-dress-black-pd692blk/ but can you come with something as flattering but with more colour? Budget limited preferably (well) under £100
Thanks Grin

If you're set on wearing those shoes then I think that black dress would look really good. I wonder if the shoes are too busy to wear with colour

brogueish · 27/09/2017 19:03

No advice but I am very jealous Envy

Have a fabulous time Glitterball

BendydickCuminsnatch · 27/09/2017 19:05

Ooooooooh I'm soooooo jealous, was just telling DH that would be my dream but surely everyone tries to get tickets so how would I ever??

Can't advise on the fashion I'm afraid but how exciting!

Dailystuck71 · 27/09/2017 19:11

Can you return those shoes? I hate sounding mean but they are like something a panto dame would wear.

Other than that, have fun. I'd love to get tickets.

MrsDoylesTeabags · 27/09/2017 19:16

I have no idea but I'm so jealousGlitterball

CountFosco · 27/09/2017 19:27

A relative went last year and had a fab time. Do you know which show? You have to queue up early in the morning to get good seats (relative was there at 5am and we saw her in the audience on TV) but can then go and get ready for the evening. Although apparently if you're in Blackpool you have to queue in your finery Shock.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 27/09/2017 19:59

If you definitely won't have anywhere to change/keep a bag of stuff then I would opt for a flat shoe. I'm no good at a day of heels though, maybe you're used to it!

ElfrideSwancourt · 27/09/2017 21:44

Thanks everyone I'm so looking forward to it. We live quite far (couple of hours by train) so can't go and then go home and get changed so won't be near the front. I was planning to travel in flats and bring heels for the actual show.
I do really love the shoes (they don't look pantomime dame-y IRL but I know what you mean about the photo) so might just go with that dress and lots of bling.

I went to the semi-final a few years ago & it was fab so enjoy.

slightly off your question but important don't get there too late as they give out more invites then there are tickets for the night...

We went & were there by 8.00 am & were 80ish from start of queue - people who came much later but before the time mentioned in the email didnt get tickets . We wore flats but took sparkly shoes, bling etc in bag to strictlyfye ourselves with later.

You will love it - so great when you get to see it live.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 27/09/2017 22:42

I saw the Christmas one a few years ago. It was a brilliant day/night. They requested sparkle when we went - possibly because it was Christmas. But I can't remember what I wore - not helpful!

Bombardier25966 · 27/09/2017 22:43

Those shoes are hideous. You could become a Twitter sensation for all the wrong reasons.

The dress is lovely.

ElfrideSwancourt · 28/09/2017 13:03

@BeaLola and @DontCallMeCharlotte it says on the email 3pm- if we get there then will we not get in even though we have tickets?

Don't wear the shoes op , they would ruin any look.

MyDcAreMarvel · 28/09/2017 13:12

The dress is lovely though.

MagicFajita · 28/09/2017 13:17

I've no help to offer with your outfit op , I just wanted to say that those shoes are amazing. I know irregular choice are a bit marmite but I love them.

Good luck finding a dress and have an amazing timeSmile

Paintbox · 28/09/2017 13:25

Ha yes magic, there is no middle ground with irregular choice, you either love them or hate them. I hate them but I love how much others love them! You wear them if you love them op!

troodiedoo · 28/09/2017 13:32

We had tickets for the red carpet filming, said tickets validated from 5pm. We got there about quarter to and were turned away as were many others. Very annoying as it said on the ticket it's very rare that they turn people away Hmm

But as a thanks for turning up we'll get tickets for a November show. 3 hours on train so will be a 2 night stay to ensure we get in.

TapStepBallChange · 28/09/2017 13:33

I went a couple of years ago. You may well not get in if you get there at 3. I got there early about 7am, and I was no 250 in the queue, at 9am they start giving you a numbered sticker from the front of the queue (which is how I know where I was). I queued on behalf of me and pregnant friend.

I'm not sure how long they were giving out stickers, the queue was probably another 200 behind me. You can can then disappear for a while, I drive up to St Albans which is quite near to mooch around the shops and have some lunch. Then back to the studios for 3 ish from what a remember. You're put Ina holding room for ages, until they are ready to open the studios, you're called into the studios in number order. At 250 we were about the last people sat downstairs (I was over Craig's shoulder nr the stairs). It was a long evening, finished at about 10ish

Anyway wear layers, it goes from being cold to really hot with the lights then cold when you go home. Don't worry too much about shoes, generally they can't be seen. Go big jewellery if you want to try and spot yourself easily

BeaLola · 28/09/2017 14:42

OP - re yr question & please bear in mind they may have changed it /relaxed "rules"- I went the year Sophie Ellis Bextor danced with Brendan in semis.

I live several hours away & don't know Elstree & was going by public transport. In small print on the email tucked away it said something along the lines of this doesn't guarantee you entry & to be there before 3pm.

About 10 days beforehand I rang Elstree studios to ask a couple of questions in prep for my visit - I spoke to a very helpful lady who worked on film marketing and was nothing to do with SCD who actually laughed when I said something like - I know it says be here by 3pm but I am going to get there a bit earlier..... after she stopped laughing she said to me if you get here by 3pm you wont get in. She said they start queuing normally from 7am & there were she understood less than 400 tickets as lots of celebs & family members/past contestants fill seats.

Me & my friend went as early as we could get there because we would rather stand for hours & get in than have missed the chance to get in.

As I said earlier I think we were there about 8am (?). Luckily whilst freezing cold (it was mid Dec) it didn't rain. My friend walked to front of queue & counted back - I think we were in the 80's in queue. At about 9.30 a staff member came along queue saying they would start handing out your numbers at 12 Noon. Whilst one of us stayed in queue the other walked over to Tescos to get takeaway coffees.
There was a lovely lady ahead of us in queue who had been before (!) - she told everyone to stay in the queue because the give you a ticket per person for your seat - you couldn't collect for someone else.

At around 12.30ish we were given our tickets - no 81 & 82. We then left and went to Elstree High Street found a restaurant & had a very long leisurely lunch - we also used their toilets to apply make up/ strip off layers & glam up in general before walking back for the 4pm deadline we were given to return by.

Whilst in the restaurant we met 2 young women who had got the last 2 tickets handed out ! they said there were a lot of people behind them who were turned away. We also sadly met 2 elderly ladies lunching who had misunderstood their email & thought they just needed to get there by 3pm to be ushered into studio & hadn't queued - they ate up speedily & went to studio to see if they could get in - no idea what happened to them.

When we went back b y 4pm we were in a holding area with refreshments . When you get called through they do it by number & the lower your number the better your seat apparently. We ended up sitting opposite the judges near the stairs on the right hand side as you look at it on TV - we were about 4 rows back - had a great view & thoroughly enjoyed it all. Getting out at the end after they also film the results show wasn't that bad - they were very efficient - even the queue to retriebe mobiles was speedy. It was AMAZING & we still talk about it & how luck we were to get tickets. I apply every year along with 5 million others !

Sorry that was long but I definitely would get there earlier - you would hatye to miss out .

TapStepBallChange · 28/09/2017 14:57

If it helps I was 2 years ago, the year of Peter Andre, Anti Rani and Jay and Aliona

ElfrideSwancourt · 28/09/2017 15:36

Thanks very much everyone we'll try to get there as early as possible.

There is a Travelodge about ten minutes away which if booked in advance can be very cheap. It is frequented by a lot of Strictly audience members. You could go up the night before, queue early , then go back and rest and change before returning mid afternoon.

Also, try and hang around at the end in the bar, there is a separate bar for the celebs and guests, but they always mill around for a couple of hours afterwards and lots are good natured enough to pose for pics or chat etc. Prolongs the experience a bit!

ElfrideSwancourt · 28/09/2017 16:58

Great idea @mrsmildred thanks for the tip hadn't thought of that.
