Fecked off with mini-pockets - how do I work out my size in men's jeans?

Thinking of trying out men's jeans - how do I work out how a size 10-12 translates? I have a waist and an arse, so probably not the ideal shape.

Try some on?

In theory you could measure where you want the waistband to be and then get some that say "30 inch waist" but in reality that's unlikely to work.

Let us know how you get on.

I know there's a trend for deliberately unflattering shapes of jeans right now, but you may find that men's jeans go too far.

Mens 30" waist used to be a 12 . Don't know if that's still the case, this was back in the day when a 12 was a 24" women's waist.

I wear a 30 or 32 in Uniqlo chinos. I have a 28" waist and a 40" low-hip/arse and normally wear a 12 or 14 in women's, but I struggle to get any women's trousers to fit me as I have a long torso and exaggerated hourglass shape and women's clothes are simply not made for hourglass shapes any more for some reason. Clothes just... fall down, ride up, gape at the waistband, tops don't reach my trousers and trousers don't remotely approach my waist, dress waists are on my ribcage and the skirts cannot even see my mid thigh, if it goes over my boobs (32FF) it's a sack on my torso... I've honestly given up!

Slim leg flat front men's chinos never fall down, cover my entire bottom, and have useful pockets. Win! I also get asked where my perfectly fitting trousers come from, which makes me laugh. Grin

I wear DH's jeans sometimes. It all depends on the type - men's slim fit or skinny jeans will fit quite well. Go for something with elastane. The waist tends to cock out a bit at the back but a belt sorts that out. This happens me in women's clothes anyway because I am quite pear shaped. Usually plenty of room for my not small arse - because the men's jeans have more arse area anyway.

If your own size is 10-12 that is probably 28-30 in women's size jeans - I'd look for similar waist size in men's. I remember a nice pair DH had in 29 when my own 28s wouldn't go on me at all. I doubt a women's 29 would have fitted very well either - there seems to be so much more room for my arse in men's.
