Hi, I ordered a dress through Vestiaire collective. It's where private sellers sell through a company, which checks each item for quality and matching description before they send it to the customer. They state that if it's from a private seller then there is no chance of refund/ exchange. I bought a beautiful Temperley London dress, which was advertised as a size 10. When it came, I tried it on and it is obviously no where near a size 10. It is about a 6! The size label had also been cut out. I feel so disappointed as it was a lot of money for me as I'm a student at the moment. I'm going to have to phone them but wanted some advice first.
I've measured the dress, under the bust, spread out, it measures 31cm. Do the rules of refund change if the garment is not as described despite being checked? My feeling is, that she cut out the size tag, and advertised it as a 10 as it would be more likely to sell than a size 6.
Really disappointed and can't afford to waste that money as I have had to buy another dress for the wedding.

Have you tried putting your measurements into their sizing guide to see what size they recommend for your measurements? If it is a wedding dress sizing sometimes is different to usual high street sizes.

Temperley size calculator here

Hi, no it's not a wedding dress. I'm going as a guest. I will have a look at the calculator, thanks. Smile

Hi, according to their charts, I would be a 12, for comfort, but if the tape measure is pulled tight, I could be a 10. Grin This dress has about a 7 inch gap between the zip when I tried it on. It's definitely not as described but does fir the measurements of a size 6.

I don't think you will have much luck unfortunately, the thing is that sizing varies from brand to brand so much that it's impossible from a number on a label to know the true size. Big name designers tend to have their sizing more true to the size charts than high street stores which have flattering vanity sizing. That's why it is risky to buy from a brand you don't usually shop from without having the actual garment measurements which you can then compare with something you have already that fits. I buy a lot from Vestiaire collective and have never had any issues, but I am usually buying brands I know well so I'm not taking a risk with sizing.

If the main size label has been cut out, can you look for the fabric/care label which will probably be on a side seam in the skirt part? That may have the size on it, and if it is indeed a size 6 not a 10 then you will be entitled to a refund.

Sorry this has happened, at least you can try to resell the dress via Vestiaire collective and get some of your money back. And put the measurements in the description so some poor sod doesn't end up in the same situation as you!

Thank you. I have phoned them and because the measurements on the Temperley site match up with a size 6, they have asked me to e-mail them pics and measurements. They can see that the size label has been cut out. The one on the seam doesn't say a size. Fingers crossed!!
You're right though, I won't buy any brands I'm not familiar with again.

Good luck - I hope they refund you as you can prove that the measurements are for a size 6.

I don't suppose you paid by Paypal, as you could start a dispute if so?

chuffinalong · 20/09/2017 13:55

Than you. Smile No, I didn't use paypal..
