What is the warmest gillet/bodywarmer you have owned?

The school I work in is freezing cold already. A big old building with a crap old heating system and not enough money to put it on until the deep winter months.
I spend a lot of time in the corridors and the woman I work with likes to have all the windows open, even in winter.
I have a gillet( it is cheap) but I need something more hardcore. I am sick of wearing my coats in the class. I have been reading up on them and it seems a north face or Rab come out well.
Please could anyone let me know what they have/like? I need warm above everything else.

I love my Lazy Jack's one - it has a fluffy lining and keeps me warm all winter with the horses. I doubt it would be smart enough for a school, but I'll see if I can find a link as you'll be the better judge of that than I am.

Rohan

A fluff lined suede one from oasis. Warm and smart.

Down one from tog 24. Also packs down into its own pocket super practical

DaisyRenton18 · 18/09/2017 18:16

It's out of stock most places I looked (unless you want XS in pink?!), but eBay have a few different colours and sizes & all under the £50 rrp. Here's one as an example.

North Face but it's 10 years old so looks a bit dated/enormous. I wear it around the house when I'm working from home. I need to update it with a more slimline one really. I also have one from Joules and White Stuff, they aren't as warm though.

Mrsderekshepard · 18/09/2017 20:37

Love my duck down jack will's one

CatalpaTree · 18/09/2017 20:53

Rab down. So light you don't know you're wearing it and soooo warm.

ProperLavs · 18/09/2017 21:12

I beginning to think I will need to spend some ££££'s on something like rab.

I love Musto, mine are old and dirty now but I think they were smart when they were new.... Many moons ago Smile

Alpkit is very good for (relatively) cheap down.
Patagonia is excellent quality.
Lands End is not bad, and if you sign up for emails, they are always having discounts.,

Not all down is equal. Apart from ethical issues, quality varies hugely. Look also for "fill power" ratings (insulation). You want 600+ for winter warmth.

BikeRunSki · 18/09/2017 21:21

This is very good for the price

ProperLavs · 18/09/2017 21:38

Thank you, that looks good 🙂

I've just looked on eBay for north face stuff and reported a counterfeit one 🤓

As you were op!

Polkadot1974 · 18/09/2017 21:54

I'm feeling very thick and a bit "oh- down..." but what do I need to know but likely don't want to about down?

tongueincheek · 18/09/2017 21:57

Aigle
It's duck down so like wearing a duvet

Have just invested in the coat for this winter

Unicorn81 · 18/09/2017 21:58

One from fat face, they still do them i think

BikeRunSki · 18/09/2017 22:00

PolkaDot
^RESPONSIBLE DOWN STANDARD
The down we use is certified RDS (Responsible Down Standard). This mark indicates that the down in this product does not come from birds that have been live-plucked or force-fed, and that their welfare has been protected from the time they were hatchlings to when they are slaughtered. That’s good to know.^

from the Alpkit website

Blimey I've just stepped away from eBay as I'd starting looking for an outfit for my 10yo dd to wear to a wedding.

Everything about this is horrible. The dress, the title and the models poses. Sorry for derail but eBay does this to me!

Polkadot1974 · 19/09/2017 21:18

Oh my. I have some feather pillows but fear I have a very naive view of where the feathers cane from. Don't own any Down stuff but must read up. Thank you

Littlelondoner · 21/09/2017 08:49

I love jcrews . Warm enough but still look smart.

0ccamsRazor · 21/09/2017 09:19

I love my sheepskin one that dh gave me one year as a birthday gift, in chocolate brown and toffee, it is so cosy and warm. Can not think of the brand but it was made in Italy.
