Hi everyone, inspired by a recent thread on here, I've treated myself to a beautiful pair of black patent DM boots...used to wear them as a teen but I don't remember them being do bloody uncomfortable and having to wear them in. I'm a size 5 usually and have quite broad feet so tried on a 5 in the shop. The actual 'foot' part fits me as in the length but they don't feel 'deep' enough iyswim and are really pressing on the top of my foot kind of halfway up where the eyelets are. Any I e had the same? Will they start to give? I said all this to the lady in the shop and she said she found the same and to wear in the house and return if no improvement...anyone else?

I bought me toddler the hot pink ones ( and the black ones ) and she screams when she I take them out and runs away!

Hi , I bought my daughter some patent boots and my dp got some work boots . They both said it takes a good few wears . We went out to eat the other day and the waitress had some on . Her and my daughter had the same conversation and she said two pairs of socks and a few days wear .
I am thinking of getting some myself . I had Grenson boots last year and loved them (they also took a few painful wears to break in ) . Sadly they ripped .

I love my docs! I have knee high black ones with roses and these glitter ones! Funnily enough it's a boring ordinary pair of pascals that are too tight and need stretching!

It always makes me laugh how determined people are with DMs. If any other pair of shoes shredded your feet or caused pain, you'd take them back or bin them.

I had a pair from Office a couple of years ago that were exactly like you describe - 6 was too tight over the front, but 7 was too long. I gave up, as I figured they might never break in. I do love those rainbow glitter ones.

jennielou75 · 17/09/2017 12:56

The rainbow ones are very comfy and true to size. I have a six and they fit fine. They didn't even run at the back.

JustRosieHere · 17/09/2017 13:11

I have wide size 5 feet and bought DMs a few weeks ago. They are the normal leather ones not patent. They felt fine mostly but a bit tight on the top of my foot. I've found wearing a normal pair of socks and a pair of running socks as well is best. Thick walking socks just make them feel too tight. They still aren't broken fully yet but I've just been wearing them for an hour at a time.

Ozzde · 17/09/2017 13:19

True Wombling Grin I think I stick with them as I know once you get past the inital stage they are perfect for my dodgy feet and super comfy. Plus hard wearing which is good as I'm very hard on shoes.

IdentityRequest1 · 17/09/2017 13:58

I'm currently breaking in a pair of pascal ones - they are a bit softer. Where they get me is the seam at the bottom of the eyelets - is that where you mean? I'm doing the damp newspaper overnight and it has made a difference...

RedBlu · 17/09/2017 15:17

I have my first pair turning up tomorrow, I am usually between a 6 and a 6.5 and went with a 6.

Will see how they fit when they arrive!

roundturnandtwohalfhitches · 17/09/2017 15:24

I could never wear DM's. Too tight across the top of the foot and never seemed to stretch even after weeks of wearing. I had a beautiful pair of ox blood red ones from the late 80s that would cripple me. I still have them and tried them on last year- still cripple me. Can't believe they still do this.

Judydreamsofhorses · 17/09/2017 15:26

I had the oxblood patent Chelsea boots a few years back and they were my absolute nemesis. I got them to the point of being bearable for an afternoon or a short walk, but they ended up on eBay in the end. I think patent is harder to wear in than normal leather.

ElspethFlashman · 17/09/2017 15:43

I have a fit of nostalgia for my old 90's Chelsea boots from time to time and then threads like this totally cure it, lol. I remember having to wear two pairs of socks for 2 weeks.......and they've gotten worse?!

Pass!

RedBlu · 17/09/2017 15:46

Wow are they really that bad, maybe I will send mine back then as my feet do blister in shoes quite easily and it sounds like these will take a fair bit of pain to break them in

Branleuse · 17/09/2017 15:46

They are not the right shape for you. You wont wear in or stretch the patent ones. I think you should return them and get a different style

Keel · 17/09/2017 16:04

Just been bedding mine in. They take a bit but are so comfy when moulded. I'd say persevere with them.

Bluesheep8 · 18/09/2017 15:18

Well I've exchanged them for a 6...compared the two in the shop and the 5 are WAY narrower across the front or the girth ad the guy in the shop said.. even he was amazed at the difference. The 6 seem so much more comfortable but will need thick socks which is more sensible anyway as the 5 were painfully tight even with just tights on..think I may have got there in the end! Thanks again for all the advice and suggestions.
