Biotin and/or supplements for hair/nails

Despite a healthy diet (lots of healthy fats, nuts, seeds & protein etc), I lose handfuls of hair daily, it's thin & my nails are dry & brittle. I'm hypothyroid, which doesn't help obvs & despite being on right level of meds (regularly tested). I have coloured my hair blonde for years at the salon but use weekly masks to try & counteract that.

I have heard that Biotin supplements can be helpful for improving hair & nail health & there are of course a variety of products such as Perfectil on the market. Does anyone have any experience? (I should add that I'm GF intolerant & allergic to shellfish so have to be careful about supplement content! But will investigate further any suggestions 😊

For similar reasons, I've started taking Swisse Skin, Hair, Nails supplements recently. I'm about a month in and I've seen a noticeable difference. They're not cheap but I don't think they're quite as expensive as Perfectil.

Thank you. Will look into those.

If you compare the ingredients list of perfectil with the Sainsbury's own brand it's completely identical. Sainsbury's are much cheaper.

I take hair and skin gummies that are gf. Get them from iherb. My hair was falling out/ thinning due to illness and long term medication but after taking them for 6 months my hair is a lot thicker. It does take time and isn't a quick fix.

I take biotin and have noticed a big difference in my hair and nails. I also take ferogloblin as my iron levels were a bit low and that's associated with hair loss.

Thanks all. Will continue the investigation.

Bojheybuddy I hadn't thought about iron levels. I'm always a bit pale & tired but had assumed due to thyroid. Will ask GP.

I have RA and was on methotrexate. The first pic is what that did to me, the second after just 3 months on biotin.
