It occurred to me recently that although over the years I've managed to find different make up that I like, I have NEVER really discovered the perfect lipstick for me. Can anyone help?
I have quite a pale complexion
dark brown eyes
dark blonde/light brown hair
I'm looking for a matte lipstick, I think, in some kind of browny pinky colour.

Hi olderandnowiser, someone mentioned BarryM "Genie" lipstick on here the other day. Curiosity got the better and I made the splurge in Boots on Thursday, it cost €7(ish) - like you Ive been on an eternal search for the perfect shade of lippie but have never found it. Genie is green in the tube but goes on pink, the colour whilst strong should suit your lip pigment. I just blot it on lightly for daytime use, it also has the effect of staining your lips so they stay coloured all day. Possibly a bit drying so I top up with Vaseline. Cant complain so far. There was another one called Neptune - think it goes on as a slightly purpler shade. HTH

I shall investigate, thank you. I've been feverishly googling and reading reviews of all possible shades/makes. I know that no one in the world cares what lipstick I wear, but it's really annoying me.

Does your skin have yellow or pink undertones? I'm pale with red tones in my hair, but I have yellow (warm) tones in my skin and a lot of the lipsticks recommended to cool tones pale people make me look ill.

This sounds awful, but I don't really know if I have yellow or pink undertones, how can I tell?

Look at the veins on your wrist. If they look greenish then you have warm / yellow tones; if they are blue then you have cool / pink tones.

I found a perfect lipstick by getting my foundation colour matched by no7. They give you a card with the names of all the lipsticks that work with your particular foundation shade.

Thanks, after some investigation and some working out if my veins are greeny-blue or bluey-green i think I've got cool tones. But when I google for pics of women with cool tones their colouring seems paler than mine, e.g. they often have light eyes and light hair.

I've just had a thought! Maybe the problem I have with the lipstick shade isn't my fault! Maybe I am a strange hybrid of cool and warm, hereafter known as 'corn'. If i were business - minded I could see a whole new opportunity for makeup manufacturers out there.

Good idea, burnished, I think my next stop should be 'Boots'.
