why is it so ghastly now?
10 years ago I could go in and covet every single thing. Now I'm lucky if there is one thing I'd wear. They seem overpriced, full of large garish prints, and the quality of the knitwear is poor. Dresses are shapeless and frumpy.

I've just spotted a top I like in Oliver Bonas (following the mention here, thank you) but what's the idea behind the cold shoulder jumper Confused

abigailgabble · 07/09/2017 22:58

I bought two lovely ankle length skirts there this summer having previously written it off as frumpy. Not much else appeals.

I think it's amazing the way WS changed so absolutely. I remember going in to their (small, trendy snowboarder style) shops in the mid-1990s and coveting £60 jumpers - I know there are far cheaper shops in the high street but you'd never find a £60 jumper in WS now and would probably be equivalent to >£100 in today's prices.

Fat Face did the same thing (the two shops used to be beside each other in Edinburgh) but even though they shifted the demographic (or at least tried to keep selling to exactly the same people as they aged) I don't hate it quite so much. They get me through the door because the kids clothes are good and I get the odd cotton tops there are they are usual good enough quality. However, they email me all the time professing excitement about the same shit smocks with giraffes and the like printed all over them - when even the model looks terrible it's never a tempting offer.

Agreed endehors - they are very lovely. But all the cut away holes and things? I live in Scotland, dudes!

Dancinggoat · 08/09/2017 07:42

WS and fat face seem to use the same patterns year after year. If you find something you like the material has been used for every other type of garment. You could buy an entire wardrobe in the same material.

I actually bought a smock top this year from WS as it seemed a different style to the same old it always produces. I have a feeling it may be one that everyone feels is part of the nasty new stuff. It's this one.

I bought a viscose top in there a couple of years ago, one wear out it and my bag rubbed a giant hole in the sleeve. I went back to complain and they wouldn't consider any sort of compensation. I think if the clothes are going to be relatively high priced for questionable quality they should at least have exceptional customer service such as Boden.

Only things I've bought since are tights and pants

notafish · 08/09/2017 10:40

Agree op. Even when I find the odd thing that is neutral and okay I think it is overpriced as too short in the body and lacks any tailoring like bust darts in the shirts.
