What the heck can I wear on my legs other than skinny jeans or leggings?

I don't like skirts. So that leaves me with skinny jeans or leggings, I am going to university soon and will be cycling there so a smart trouser wouldn't be practical. Does anyone have any suggestions of alternatives?
I do have levi straight leg jeans which really don't do a lot for me other than mark me out as middle aged (I am middle aged Wink)
I am also a whopping 36" inside leg which narrows the choice somewhat.
I wish you could get jogging bottom (with cuffed legs) style thick stretchy pants that looked casual rather than can't be arsed.
I have been to work today jn faded blue fat face ones (self employed cleaner) and I really do look like someone who has given up on her appearance.
Any help appreciated.

Sounds like you need harem pants. Have a look at Hush's, though they may be a bit short for you.

Whitney168 · 04/09/2017 19:01

Hush harems will definitely be too short.

NC4now · 04/09/2017 19:02

How about these?

They are in a tall fit.

reetgood · 04/09/2017 19:04

There is a mid way... trousers that are cycleable in! Plenty of mid point between jeans and formal work trousers. Most shops have something. Eg

Or, jeans/ jeggings in colours that are not black or blue.

Or wear leggings to cycle in and change at work?

donajimena · 04/09/2017 19:07

NC4Now I do like those and the price is good too. Do you think they would be acceptable with chunky timberland boots and a long top of some sort? I am not very adventurous and clueless with style
I really need someone to take me shopping.
I'd wear boots because of the cycling.

Bum40 loves her athleisure and this is a recent blog post about them with lots of high street suggestions.

I wear corduroys, dungarees, smart suit trousers with Converse, crazy patterned harem pants, leggings and a tunic....You can cycle in smart trousers as long as you're comfy.

Fleurchamp · 04/09/2017 19:23

I love my hush Amie joggers

TheDowagerCuntess · 04/09/2017 19:29

I'm tall and don't really like skirts and dresses.

There's lots of different trousers that fall between 'smart' and skinny jeans...

One example...

I like chinos

InvisibleKittenAttack · 04/09/2017 19:53

My much more fashionable friend informs me that cords are back, so give it a fortnight and see if there's lots of those to pick from in shops that cater to taller people. (I need petite so opposite issue ! I have just embraced wearing dresses and skirts, much easier to hide the fact it's not sitting on the bit of your leg it was designed to)

DontCallMeCharlotte · 04/09/2017 20:23

I hate this word but it does what it says on the tin: "treggings".

donajimena · 04/09/2017 21:04

Dowager I wear those too and love them! I should have been more season specific.

I am an ex combat wearer from the 90s, and find chinos about as comfy Grin

We are coming into spring here, so yes, wrong season sorry!

Ttbb · 04/09/2017 21:15

Boots and thick tights under skirts? Still feels like leggings but looks a bit different? Riding trousers? A jumpsuit?

bananafish81 · 04/09/2017 22:09

I live in uniqlo leggings trousers in various colours - navy, grey, grey check, black - they come in other colours too. Like slightly less jeggingy jeggings. Uniqlo smart style ankle trousers are also excellent - I wear these with trainers or brogue

MojoMoon · 05/09/2017 07:59

Cycling specific jeans. Look smarter but last better for cycling that normal ones.
